About the role

The Director of Service reports to the Senior Vice President of Lease & Rental and is responsible for processes and functions within the Allegiance Trucks Leasing LLC (ATL) lease and rental business line. This role involves working with lease and rental personnel to increase productivity, customer satisfaction, and achieve annual business plan and financial objectives while maintaining the highest possible gross profit margin. The position focuses on establishing consistent processes and systems for Lease and Rental service departments, providing training, and driving continuous improvement and safety awareness.

High Leverage Activities

  • Drive service department financial performance by working with Service Managers to ensure lease and rental profit objectives are achieved.
  • Develop, train, and implement a sustainable Preventive Maintenance (PM) program.
  • Assist lease and rental regions in developing the annual operating plan and strategy for service and operations.
  • Build key relationships with fleet customers and represent ATL in customer, industry, and manufacturer relations.
  • Develop best practices and benchmarks for performance in all service departments and measure performance against objectives (PM Currency, PM Quality, warranty, and sub/deadline).

Responsibilities

  • Optimize lease and rental operational processes and systems to ensure internal and external customer satisfaction, profitable growth, and expense control.
  • Work with Lease and Rental Service Managers and dealerships to ensure profit objectives are achieved.
  • Engage Service personnel in process and system improvements; provide training as needed.
  • Share best practices and implement common processes across lease and rental facilities.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with the business leadership team.
  • Partner with all dealership areas to drive business strategies, performance, and process improvements.
  • Develop innovative methods to support all product offerings and customers.
  • Analyze monthly department reports with the service team and identify areas needing attention.
  • Develop policies and procedures to ensure proper controls and maximize operational efficiency.
  • Ensure consistent policies and procedures are incorporated throughout the organization.
  • Develop and maintain consistent tech efficiency records and reports.
  • Create cost control strategies.
  • Assist in developing action plans for all departments within Service Operations.
  • Evaluate results against the plan and recommend adjustments to senior management.
  • Represent the company in industry-related associations and forums.
  • Partner with Idealease Corp. and Navistar to improve efficiencies in Service Operations.
  • Develop key vendor relationships (e.g., Cummins, Eaton, Meritor).
  • Assist in recruiting and hiring Service department personnel.
  • Coordinate training for individuals and groups across all departments.
  • Assist Regional VPs and operations managers in developing Service Managers’ technical skills.
  • Stay updated on International and vendor warranty policies and product changes.
  • Develop performance benchmarks for lease and rental departments and measure against objectives.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma and/or GED is required; a combination of education, training, or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • College degree or military service preferred.
  • A minimum of five years’ experience with heavy-duty trucks in a dealership, fleet, fleet maintenance, or similar environment.
  • Supervisory skills, mechanical aptitude, and computer skills.
  • Knowledge of company products.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematics and calculate percentages.
  • Process-focused with the ability to conduct root cause analysis and implement solutions.
  • Strong listening and communication skills with customers, employees, and co-workers.
  • Experience with Six Sigma, 5S, or other lean principles preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Working Conditions

The position is located in both office and shop environments, with duties performed outside. Mobility (walking, standing, bending) is frequent. Constant requirements include dexterity, hearing, talking, and visual ability to detect situations of concern. The employee will occasionally lift over 50 pounds. Exposure to heat, cold, dust, and dirt is expected. Travel is required.
