About the role
The Director of Learning & Development at Alpha is responsible for ensuring that every child in their student cohort and the Guides they develop meet three key promises: developing a love for school, learning at twice the standard pace, and acquiring practical life skills. This role demands a dynamic approach to education, focusing on real-world skills and accelerated learning.
Responsibilities
- Facilitating one-hour live life skills and social-emotional learning (SEL) sessions with students in grades K-8 on subjects such as public speaking and concentration, adhering to Alpha's established framework.
- Conducting daily motivational sessions designed to propel 100% of students toward their weekly application-based goals through age-appropriate incentive systems including school currency and performance leaderboards.
- Developing Guides via direct observation, precise feedback, and practical skill-building to ensure they facilitate sessions with equivalent energy and execution quality.
- Analyzing Coachbot data and individual student records to pinpoint students requiring additional support, then providing direct intervention.
- Directly mentoring your designated student cohort, demonstrating the coaching and motivational techniques you require from all Guides.
Requirements
- Currently residing in or prepared to relocate to Beverly Hills, CA; Piedmont, CA; Greenwich, CT; Boca Raton, FL; Miami, FL; Boston, MA; Raleigh, NC; New York City, NY; Seattle, WA (relocation assistance provided).
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology, Business, or related discipline (Master's degree preferred; traditional teaching certifications are not required).
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in education, learning and development, coaching, or comparable field.
- Demonstrated experience designing and executing educational programs, curricula, or training initiatives.
- Proven history of managing a team of 5 or more individuals, including responsibility for recruitment and performance-based termination decisions.
- Competency in leveraging data and performance metrics to inform decision-making and drive continuous improvement.
- Basic understanding of Alpha's adaptive learning platform and its integration into the learning process.
Nice-to-have Requirements
- Master's degree in Education, Psychology, or Business.
- Experience as an athletic coach, camp director, or youth program coordinator where you directly motivated children to achieve quantifiable objectives.
- History of coaching adults in positions where performance was systematically tracked and evaluated.
- Confidence engaging and performing before large groups of children.

$100 USD/hour, which equates to $200,000 USD/year assuming 40 hours per week and 50 weeks per year.
