About the role
Athene has an opportunity for a highly visible Director of Investment and Derivative Finance. The Director will serve as a senior subject matter expert within the investment accounting organization, driving investment valuation, derivative accounting, and broader investment accounting activities across GAAP, Statutory, and Regulatory reporting, as well as key project work. This role involves driving analytics, process improvements, and automation, strengthening the control environment, and providing day-to-day technical insight into accounting and financial reporting activities.
Responsibilities
- Lead investment performance analytics and valuation analysis, translating complex financial and business drivers into executive-ready insights that inform strategic decisions.
- Partner with Investment and Derivative Accounting leadership to ensure accurate, timely, efficient, and well-controlled close and financial reporting activities.
- Serve as a senior technical resource for investment and derivative accounting across GAAP, Statutory, and Regulatory reporting, including researching and documenting complex accounting positions.
- Partner across Risk, Corporate Development, Accounting Policy, Investor Relations, Capital Management, SEC Reporting, Treasury, Bermuda Finance, Apollo, and other stakeholders to evaluate investment strategies and provide strategic recommendations.
- Translate complex financial and business drivers into executive-ready analyses and presentations that influence strategic decisions.
- Partner with Derivative Accounting, Risk, Operations, IT, and third-party vendors on derivative system transformation projects.
- Drive transformation and continuous improvement across investment and derivative finance, including derivative systems, automation, AI-enabled analytics, forecasting, and reporting while maintaining strong governance and accuracy.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of relevant experience in investment and derivative accounting, investment finance, or related fields, with deep technical expertise across complex investment activities and 4 years of direct or indirect leadership experience.
- Strong knowledge of derivatives, fixed income, structured products, GAAP, and Statutory accounting, with broad exposure across investment asset classes; CPA strongly preferred.
- Proven ability to apply critical thinking and sound judgment to complex financial issues, influence senior and executive stakeholders, and translate technical concepts into actionable business insights.
- Demonstrated success driving process improvement, technology-enabled transformation, and change, with AI fluency and a mindset for innovation, adaptability, and continuous improvement.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent experience; MBA or advanced degree a plus.
