Responsibilities
- Maintain the comprehensive intake process including gathering dental and medical histories.
- Review and process patient referrals as directed by student dentists.
- Determine and delegate emergency treatments as necessary.
- Guide and assist in establishing professional and patient management techniques for students.
- Aid in resolving patient-related issues and assist the Patient Care Coordinators.
- Evaluate and mentor student performance, addressing individual needs and time utilization.
- Create and manage the clinic roster, ensuring consistent student-patient pairings and coverage.
- Report instances of misconduct to relevant authorities.
- Support clinical faculty in maintaining compliance with clinical protocols and infection control standards.
- Contribute to the review and evaluation of student activities as required.
- Participate in the oversight of clinical formative and summative examination processes.
- Attend periodic meetings with other directors or clinic program leaders.
- Possibly serve on committees such as the Clinical Policy Committee and the Year 3,4 Student Academic Promotion Review Committee (SPRAC 3-4).
Qualifications
- D.D.S./DMD from a CODA-accredited dental school or equivalent.
- Dental license registration, eligibility for licensure in New Mexico.
- Previous teaching experience preferred.
- DEA number.
- Board eligibility or certification.
- Familiarity with curriculum development and digital dentistry technology.
- Strong interpersonal skills: professionalism, diplomacy, judgment, and discretion.
- Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with students, faculty, and colleagues.
- Effective organizational and delegation skills.
