About the role

The Hospital Information Technology & Systems Director (HDIS) plays a pivotal role in leading IT services at Canyon Vista Medical Center. Reporting directly to hospital leadership, this position ensures that local IT operations align with broader strategic plans, regulatory requirements, and best practices. The role also involves collaborating with system-level IT leadership, hospital executives, and cross-functional teams to deliver secure, reliable, and innovative technology solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary liaison between hospital leadership and enterprise IT, representing local needs in system-wide planning and implementing enterprise strategies.
  • Participate in enterprise governance councils and contribute to the development and enforcement of data governance, cybersecurity, and technology standards.
  • Lead the hospital's IT strategic planning process, aligning technology initiatives with both hospital and enterprise goals.
  • Oversee day-to-day IT operations, including infrastructure, applications, cybersecurity, and support services, ensuring high availability and performance of clinical and business systems.
  • Implement and monitor IT service management processes, incident response, and change management in accordance with enterprise policies.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements (e.g., HIPAA, HITECH) and participate in audits, inspections, and accreditation processes.
  • Lead or support enterprise IT initiatives at the hospital, including EHR upgrades, cybersecurity initiatives, digital transformation efforts, and initiatives to reduce technical debt within the hospital's data center.
  • Champion change management, staff training, and adoption of new technologies, leveraging enterprise resources and best practices.
  • Foster strong relationships with hospital leadership, clinical teams, and enterprise IT peers to ensure technology solutions meet operational and clinical needs.
  • Engage with external vendors and partners as needed, following enterprise procurement and vendor management guidelines.
  • Collaborate with hospital financial leaders to support cost containment strategies and ensure technology initiatives align with organizational priorities.
  • Identify opportunities for operational efficiencies, cost savings, and revenue generation through technology.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the hospital IT team, promoting a culture of accountability, continuous learning, and professional growth.
  • Drive continuous improvement in IT service delivery, leveraging data analytics, benchmarking, and enterprise performance metrics.
  • Promote a culture of innovation, encouraging the adoption of emerging technologies that advance patient care, operational efficiency, and data security.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, or related field required, or 7+ years of direct experience in lieu of a Bachelor's degree required.
  • 5+ years of progressive IT management experience, with at least 3 years in healthcare and multi-site or enterprise environments.
  • Demonstrated experience with hospital IT operations, EHR systems, cybersecurity, regulatory compliance, and project management.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills; ability to collaborate across clinical, operational, and enterprise teams.
  • Experience managing budgets, vendor relationships, and IT staff development.
  • Knowledge of industry best practices, regulatory requirements, and emerging trends in healthcare IT.

Qualifications
