About the Role

Eastern Washington University seeks candidates for a professional Director of Human Resource Systems. This position is responsible for the strategic management, implementation, and optimization of EWU's HR systems, including management, input, and maintenance of HR data, files, records, and report creation. The role ensures the Human Resources Office maintains up-to-date information systems and data to meet institutional needs.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic management, implementation, and optimization of HR systems.

  • Ensure HR systems and data remain current to meet institutional needs.
  • Develop and maintain productive professional relationships across the university based on trust, respect, and reliability.
  • Apply critical and analytical thinking to support decision-making, initiate solutions, and resolve problems.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service consistently.
  • Establish credibility through HR knowledge, transparency, and compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Stay current with best practices, policies, procedures, and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Foster understanding and acceptance of new perspectives and best practices.
  • Adjust priorities and approaches in response to organizational changes.
  • Provide training and coaching to support personal work performance and professional development.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision while functioning as a collaborative team member.
  • Demonstrate self-initiative and high-level performance contributing to HR’s value at the university.

Requirements

  • Any combination of nine (9) years of education and experience beyond entry-level work in the following areas:
    • Functional administration of an HRIS system (e.g., PeopleAdmin, PageUp, HRMS, Workday, Ellucian Banner).
    • Records/data maintenance and management.
    • Technical skills in HR information management software (e.g., Banner, Workday, HRMS, PageUp, PeopleAdmin, Tableau, SQL).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and database management.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, emotional intelligence, and discretion.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Customer service-oriented with a commitment to quality relationships.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Human Resources, Business, Management, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Human resources experience in a college, university, or state government setting.
  • Experience in an environment with collective bargaining.
  • Experience serving as the functional administrator of an HRIS or related system.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach supportive of diverse needs, including universal accessibility.

Pay

$94,945 - $111,708 annually. Placement within this range depends on education, experience, and skills.

Schedule

  • Regular office hours: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to meet office demands.
  • 12-month appointment.

Conditions of Employment

  • Contingent upon successful completion of a background check prior to employment.
  • Must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S.; sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • Must comply with EWU Immunization Policy 602-02 and provide proof of immunity or vaccination to MMR before beginning work. Waivers are available for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs.
  • This is an Administrative Exempt position covered by EWU Policy 406-01.
  • Required training via Canvas will be completed after starting employment, including Workplace Belonging training and New Employee Orientation.
  • Interviews may be conducted via Zoom; candidates must demonstrate competence using Zoom and other technologies.
  • This position may involve accountability for university funds or unsupervised access to vulnerable populations, including children under 16, developmentally disabled individuals, or vulnerable adults.
