Director of Housing – Shelby, NC

About the role

The City of Shelby is seeking a Director of Housing to lead the city's housing programs and services. The ideal candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of housing programs and services, knowledge of compliance with Federal, State, and City regulations, effective skills to manage and motivate the departmental team, and the ability to provide safe and well-maintained housing for residents.

Responsibilities

• Plans, directs, and manages 172 apartments ranging from 1 to 5 bedrooms with income-based rent.
• Oversight of 7 employees from maintenance to customer service.
• Oversees the provision of housing and resident training assistance in areas such as budgeting, life skills, education, job searching, and preparation for homeownership.

Requirements

• A degree in human services, political science or related field.
• Experience in federally funded housing programs.

• Knowledge of compliance with Federal, State, and City regulations.
• Effective skills to manage and motivate the departmental team.
• The ability to provide safe and well-maintained housing for residents.
