Director of High School Programs

Cambridge School Volunteers (CSV) unites the Cambridge community to help students in the Cambridge Public Schools feel seen, supported, and successful. An independent nonprofit operating within the Cambridge Public School District, we offer free, easy-to-access tutoring, mentorship, and classroom programming to more than 1,500 students annually.

High School Programs

CSV operates the following volunteer programs at Cambridge Rindge & Latin School (CRLS), the city’s public high school: the Tutoring Center, the College & Career Mentoring Program, Classroom Collaborators, and the Peer Mentor Program, a collaboration with CSV’s middle school team.

Responsibilities

• Provide orientation and training for new high school volunteers, and engage returning volunteers to determine placement interests and matches with students.
• Maintain up-to-date records of high school volunteers’ registration materials and placements, and ensure they are promptly entered into CSV’s volunteer management system.
• Promote CSV’s services at CRLS to students and caregivers to maximize student engagement with our programs.
• Identify needs, provide resources, and offer workshops during the school year to support volunteers’ skill development.
• Educate current and new teachers about CSV’s opportunities for students and obtain the necessary curricular material to support students in our programs.
• Maintain an organization-wide recruitment plan for community volunteers in coordination with CSV’s program managers and executive director.
• Engage with program managers to recruit volunteers who reflect the diversity of CSV’s students and fill the specific needs of CSV’s programs.
• Work with the middle school team to recruit, train, and place CRLS student volunteers as part of CSV’s Peer Tutor Program.
• Cultivate and maintain productive relationships with district and community partners.
• Evaluate CSV’s programs at CRLS and provide an annual report to the executive director.
• Contribute to CSV staff meetings and lead high school team meetings.
• Participate in our annual volunteer recognition event, CSV Now!
• Collaborate with CSV’s communications manager to create content featuring high school programs for CSV’s newsletter, website, and social media.
• Utilize summer hours to develop and launch CSV’s recruitment plan for the upcoming school year. Other summer tasks will be assigned according to current needs and in consultation with the executive director.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college, university, or equivalent professional experience.
• A minimum of 3 years’ experience managing youth programs.
• The ability to work independently and with teams to prioritize and manage responsibilities with varying timelines.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with adults and youth from various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
• Strong organizational and administrative skills.
• Excellent digital and written communication skills.
• Experience with Google Workspace, Bloomerang Volunteer or Bloomerang CRM, or comparable data management is required.

Structure and Compensation

The Director of High School Programs reports to the executive director, supervises the coordinator of high school programs, and works closely with CSV’s elementary and upper school teams. CSV’s offices are at Cambridge Rindge & Latin School, 459 Broadway. This is an in-person, exempt, 40 hours/week, year-round position. Travel to locations in Cambridge for recruiting and occasional evening and weekend events is required.
