Job Overview

About the role

The Director of Engineering will lead the Broadband Communication Systems (BCS) Sector of Hardware Engineering team. The role reports to the Vice President of Engineering of the BCS sector.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a hardware engineering group in Antenna, RF, PCB, Mechanical or electrical domains.
  • Hire, train, retain, and grow to meet program needs.
  • Lead the group technically (review proposals and such from the team, products).
  • Leading and reviewing proposals.
  • Oversee and lead hardware engineering from a schedule/program perspective.
  • Create vision, strategy, and execute against the plan to help build a best-in-class Engineering team.
  • Closely track engineering demand and ensure the team is right-sized, properly skilled, and equipped.
  • Direct engineering program technical, schedule and cost performance for projects with Hardware Engineering scope to include proposal reviews and approval and engineering program reviews and review/oversight of key technical decisions.
  • Prepare technical roadmap and help to execute that.
  • Engage to ensure tools for the org are appropriate over time, to stay current.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of 15 years of prior related experience.
  • Graduate Degree with a minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
  • In lieu of a degree, minimum of 19 years of prior related experience.
  • Advanced degree in Engineering and/or Management.
  • Deep experience in Electrical and/or Mechanical Engineering and prior work experience within the Defense industry.
  • Experience and demonstrated competence in technical leadership (project engineer or other technical lead) for large complex programs.
  • Experience managing the engineering content of large DoD proposals and/or new business pursuits.
  • Experience in system level development, requirements definition, analysis, integration, and risk mitigation for large communications systems.
  • Deep experience with Earned Value management (EVMS), metrics, and data driven decisions.
  • Demonstrated problem solving and technical/programmatic judgment.
  • Strong team player with experience managing highly technical teams.
  • Strong sense of ownership.
  • Ability to communicate confidently and concisely to both engineers and non-engineers.
  • Proven ability to translate the vision/strategy into clear priorities and direction.
  • Record of accomplishment of being highly collaborative with a proven ability to quickly establish trust and credibility among peers and customers.
  • Experience navigating matrix organizations to identify key stakeholders and create efficiencies in related efforts.
  • Experience leading development and production of wireless communication systems and associated building blocks (e.g. antennas, RF electronics, mechanical design, CCA/PCB design, interconnect, Mechanical and Electrical CAD) for line of sight and satellite applications.
  • Experience developing and/or leading embedded software engineering projects.
  • Experience developing and/or leading analog and digital hardware projects.
  • Experience leading cross functional discipline engineering teams.
  • Experience providing compelling technological briefings to executive level stakeholders.
  • Experience managing multiple layers of management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with customers and teammates.

Qualifications

Active US Secret clearance required, TS/SCI is preferred.
