About the role
The Director of Graduate Medical Education is responsible for overseeing accreditation processes, administrative operations, and compliance with accrediting and regulatory agencies for medical education programs.
Responsibilities
- Supports and monitors resident activities via program directors and coordinators
- Facilitates readiness for ACGME Annual Institutional Review
- Affixes correspondence with ACGME at institutional and program levels
- Oversights resident work hours, supervision, and evaluation processes meeting ACGME requirements
- Tracks residency program citations and action plans to address ACGME citations
- Ensures annual institutional WebADS program updates to ACGME
- Facilitates program letters of agreement for learners and inter-institutional affiliation agreements
- Conducts quarterly audits (internal program reviews) through the resident management suite (New Innovations)
- Develops mechanisms to ensure appropriate teaching of ACGME competencies
- Liaises between programs and division GME leadership
- Assists hospitals with the creation of new programs through the application building process
- Coordinates facility orientation for incoming trainees
- Supervises GME program administrative staff
- Manages operating and capital budgets for related programs
- Schedules, disciplines, and performs performance appraisals for program coordinators
- Provides formal feedback to program coordinators and develops training sessions on New Innovations essentials, leadership essentials, annual program evaluations, and other compliance areas
- Assists program directors with resident remediation and referrals to EAP and external assistance programs
- Works in conjunction with GME leadership team to create or update affiliation agreements
- Supports policy development and maintains documents relative to GMEC meetings and accreditation
Qualifications
- Required: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and 3 years’ experience in a graduate medical education or healthcare medical education setting
- Preferred: Master’s degree from an accredited college or university and 3 years’ experience in a graduate medical education setting
- Minimum of 3 years of graduate medical education experience or an equivalent combination of experience and education is required
- Management experience is preferred
