About the role
The Director of Financial Operations will lead RevOptimal's accounting and FP&A functions during a pivotal stage of growth. This role involves shaping the financial direction of a scaling startup, taking the foundation of systems and processes that got the company to this stage and building on them to support the company's next phase of growth.
Responsibilities
- Own full-cycle accounting, including AP, AR, general ledger, journal entries, accruals, and deferrals.
- Run a disciplined month-end close and deliver a timely P&L, balance sheet, cash flow statement, and variance commentary.
- Design and document internal controls and repeatable processes, including the close checklist, revenue recognition policy, and expense policy.
- Administer revenue operations: validate monthly platform usage reports, calculate and reconcile partner revenue shares under multiple contractual structures, and follow up on delinquent reporting.
- Produce customer and partner invoices through the company's billing and CRM systems, and manage AR aging and collections.
- Apply GAAP revenue recognition (ASC 606) to usage-based, revenue-share, and pass-through arrangements.
- Own accounts payable, receivable, and cash management, including reviewing, approving, and processing vendor and partner payments, managing cash and working capital, and coordinating with external tax and audit advisors.
- Manage vendor onboarding and the AR cadence.
- Own the company financial model, budget-to-actuals reporting, scenario planning, unit economics, and rev-share margin analysis by partner and platform.
- Prepare the monthly leadership reporting package and board-ready financial materials.
- Manage tax and regulatory compliance, including sales and use tax, 1099 filings, state registrations, and audit preparation.
Requirements
- Active CPA license.
- Five to eight years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including a minimum of two years as a Director of Finance/Financial Operations, Controller, Assistant Controller, or Senior Accounting Manager.
- Direct experience at an AdTech, MarTech, Tech/Data, SaaS, or online marketplace company, with a working knowledge of revenue-share structures, usage-based billing, multi-party flow-through revenue, and platform-driven payment timing.
- Strong command of GAAP revenue recognition (ASC 606) as applied to usage-based, revenue-share, and pass-through arrangements.
- Demonstrated FP&A capability, including the ability to build and maintain a driver-based financial model.
- Experience with Quickbooks and financial system integrations. Advanced proficiency in Excel and Google Sheets, and working experience with a general ledger systems, Hubspot/Salesforce CRM, and AP automation tools.
- Extremely strong attention to detail paired with sound commercial judgment.
- Ability to operate independently and own the Finance and Accounting function end-to-end.
Preferred / Nice-to-have
- Experience with modern ERP, AP, and procurement platforms.
- SQL proficiency or experience partnering with data and engineering teams on revenue data pipelines.
- Experience supporting institutional fundraising, M&A due diligence, or a financial audit.
