Director of Finance

Responsibilities

1. Direct the school’s financial activities, including budget administration and the preparation of routine and ad hoc financial analyses.
2. Lead core accounting processes such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing, reconciliations, and month-end close to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
3. Partner with senior leaders to build the annual budget, track performance against financial plans, and recommend adjustments based on operational needs.
4. Produce clear financial reports for internal leadership and governing groups, translating data into meaningful insights for decision-making.
5. Manage tuition-related administration, including billing and financial aid support, with attention to accuracy and family service.
6. Maintain readiness for audits and monitor compliance with financial controls, school policies, and applicable regulatory requirements.
7. Oversee employee administrative records, benefits support, payroll administration, and staff onboarding documentation in alignment with employment guidelines.
8. Act as a key point of contact for school leadership, families, and outside stakeholders while representing the finance function in meetings and presentations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required.
• At least 5 years of accounting experience, including progressive responsibility in finance operations.
• Demonstrated experience with annual budgeting, month-end close, financial reporting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll systems.
• Strong understanding of reconciliations, internal controls, and compliance practices related to financial administration.
• Background in a nonprofit, private school, or other mission-focused organization is preferred.
• Proficiency with accounting software as well as Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively and handle sensitive information with discretion.
