Director of Finance and Accounting - Construction

About the role

A growing construction organization is seeking an experienced Director of Finance & Accounting to lead and strengthen its accounting and financial operations. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who is equally comfortable leading a team and rolling up their sleeves. The ideal candidate will help improve processes, develop the accounting team, strengthen financial reporting, and provide meaningful financial insight to executive leadership.

Responsibilities

• Lead accounting and finance operations
• Manage and develop the accounting team
• Oversee month-end close, financial reporting, cash flow, budgeting, and forecasting
• Remain hands-on with GL, reconciliations, payroll, AR/AP, and billing as needed
• Oversee construction accounting including job costing, WIP, percentage-of-completion, retainage, and project profitability
• Improve accounting processes, controls, systems, and reporting
• Partner with operations and leadership on financial analysis and business decisions

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field
• 8+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience
• 3+ years of accounting leadership or management experience
• Strong financial reporting, GL, budgeting, forecasting, and cash management experience
• Proven ability to build and develop an accounting team
• Advanced Excel and strong systems aptitude
• Construction accounting experience strongly preferred
• Sage 100 Contractor, Procore, TimberScan/AvidXchange, or similar systems experience is a plus
• CPA preferred, but not required
