Director of Facilities Management

Role Description

The Director of Facilities Management is a full-time, on-site role based in Cedar Rapids, IA, responsible for overseeing the operation, maintenance, and safety of all Mercy Cedar Rapids facilities.

This role leads and develops facilities staff, sets performance expectations, and ensures work is completed efficiently and in alignment with organizational standards.

The director manages building maintenance programs, oversees facility operations, and coordinates with clinical and administrative leaders to support patient care environments.

• Develops and monitors budgets
• Manages vendor relationships
• Ensures regulatory compliance and environmental safety
• Captions facility improvements and capital projects
• Establishes preventive maintenance schedules
• Responds to facility-related issues
• Drives continuous improvement in facility reliability and energy efficiency

Qualifications

• Strong supervisory skills, including team leadership, staff development, and performance management
• Expertise in facilities operations and Facility Management (FM), including systems oversight and compliance with safety and regulatory standards
• Budgeting and financial management skills, including forecasting, cost control, and capital planning
• A minimum of five years' experience in the management of building maintenance, including preventive maintenance planning and coordination of repairs and upgrades
• Relevant qualifications such as a bachelor’s degree in facilities management, engineering, business administration, or equivalent experience required
• Experience in healthcare or other highly regulated environments, with knowledge of applicable codes and standards (e.g., life safety, environmental, and accreditation requirements), is strongly preferred
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across clinical and non-clinical teams, are important for success in this role
