Director of Exhibitions

About the role

The Director of Exhibition Design and Production is a senior member of the Museum Leadership Team responsible for planning, designing, and producing all exhibitions at the MIT Museum.

Responsibilities

• Develops long-term exhibition strategies aligned with the Museum's strategic plan.
• Plans annual exhibition schedules and budgets.
• Oversight of project management, timelines, and quality assurance.
• Ensures projects are delivered on time and within budget.
• Collaborates with curatorial, education, collections, marketing, and communications teams to align content, storytelling, and promotion.
• Evaluates exhibitions through visitor feedback and analytics.
• Supports traveling exhibitions and external loans.
• Manages external consultants and contractors.
• Assists with exhibition fundraising.
• Documents exhibitions.
• Represents the Museum in professional forums and partnerships.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in design or a related field and a minimum of ten years of exhibition experience in museums, galleries, or theater.
• Expertise in exhibition design, multimedia and interactive installations, and museum display practices.
• Strong leadership, project management, budgeting, and communication skills, along with the ability to collaborate across departments and engage complex scientific and technological topics.
