About the role
The Director of Exhibition Design and Production is a senior member of the Museum Leadership Team responsible for planning, designing, and producing all exhibitions at the MIT Museum.
Responsibilities
- Develops long-term exhibition strategies aligned with the Museum's strategic plan.
- Plans annual exhibition schedules and budgets.
- Oversight of project management, timelines, and quality assurance.
- Ensures projects are delivered on time and within budget.
- Collaborates with curatorial, education, collections, marketing, and communications teams to align content, storytelling, and promotion.
- Evaluates exhibitions through visitor feedback and analytics.
- Supports traveling exhibitions and external loans.
- Manages external consultants and contractors.
- Assists with exhibition fundraising.
- Documents exhibitions.
- Represents the Museum in professional forums and partnerships.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in design or a related field and a minimum of ten years of exhibition experience in museums, galleries, or theater.
- Expertise in exhibition design, multimedia and interactive installations, and museum display practices.
- Strong leadership, project management, budgeting, and communication skills, along with the ability to collaborate across departments and engage complex scientific and technological topics.
