Director of Engineering, Onchain
About the Role
We’re hiring a Director of Engineering to lead our Full-Stack Web3 team building the products and infrastructure that power our crypto payments platform, from client-facing wallet connection flows and dashboards to backend transaction processing, multi-chain infrastructure, and on/off-ramp systems. Mesh is a global company headquartered in San Francisco.
Responsibilities
- Own the technical strategy for Web3 initiatives, translating company priorities into a multi-quarter plan executed across your team.
- Build, manage, and grow a team of mainly senior to staff level engineers – hire, coach, and set career paths.
- Lead the design and technical direction for complex workflows spanning wallets, transactions, settlements, and on-chain/off-chain orchestration, partnering closely with your managers on execution.
- Own planning, execution, and delivery of multi-chain integrations, wallet infrastructure (self-custody and MPC/custodial), RPC node management, and on-chain transaction monitoring at the org level.
- Partner with Product, Design, Compliance, Legal, and other cross-functional and external teams to turn ambiguous requirements into a coherent technical roadmap.
- Represent engineering in exec-level planning and reporting, influencing company-wide roadmap decisions and resourcing.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience managing engineering teams with a track record of scaling teams and organizational structure.
- 8+ years of overall engineering experience, including production experience across frontend, backend, and on-chain components in a Web3/blockchain context.
- Hands-on (or recent hands-on) experience with Web3 building blocks — wallet connectivity/integrations, dApp development, blockchain RPCs and indexing, and/or on-chain/off-chain payment & settlement flows — and comfortable going deep with your teams on technical tradeoffs.
- Familiar with DeFi primitives (DEXs, swaps, lending, trading platforms) and how they operate in production systems.
- Strong understanding of the transaction lifecycle (signing, submission, execution) and a security-first mindset you can instill across an organization.
- Experience setting engineering standards and technical direction across a stack that spans modern frontend frameworks (TypeScript, React), backend services/APIs (Go, Rust, Java/Scala, Node.js, or similar), and smart contracts/on-chain interactions (Solidity).
- Solid fundamentals in building scalable, reliable, observable distributed systems (monitoring, logging, tracing, performance) and a track record of holding teams accountable to reliability bars.
- Comfort operating in the ambiguity of a fast-moving, regulated fintech environment — able to navigate cross-functional and cross-border collaboration (Mesh’s teams span North America, Europe, and India).

The compensation range provided may span multiple career levels and will be narrowed during the interview process based on factors including a candidate's experience, skills, qualifications, and geographic location. For candidates outside of New York or San Francisco, compensation will be adjusted to reflect the applicable market and location-based pay band. The base salary range listed excludes commission (if applicable), equity, and benefits. The pay range represents the minimum and maximum target for new-hire compensation. Actual compensation may vary and may be higher or lower depending on individual circumstances.
Pay Range $210,000 - $300,000 USD
Benefits
- Competitive salary and equity that grows as you and the company grow.
- Comprehensive health coverage for you and your family.
- Unlimited PTO—and we mean it. Take the time you need to recharge and show up at your best.
- Dedicated budget for courses, conferences, and certifications.

Employees based in our San Francisco, New York, and Bangalore hubs are expected to work from the office at least 40% of the time (approximately two days per week). This expectation may vary slightly depending on role, team, and business needs. Certain roles that require closer cross-functional collaboration or operational support may have additional in-office requirements, which will be discussed during the interview process.
