The Director of Engineering, Infrastructure will lead the teams and systems responsible for powering reliable, scalable, and efficient technology platforms. This role will define infrastructure strategy, improve engineering effectiveness, and create the foundation needed to support future product innovation.
Accountabilities
- Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing Infrastructure Engineering team, including hiring, coaching, and performance management.
- Define and execute the technical strategy for cloud infrastructure, backend systems, websites, developer tooling, observability, and operational platforms.
- Improve system reliability, scalability, security, and engineering efficiency across the organization.
- Create an environment where engineers can build, deploy, and operate software safely and effectively.
- Partner with Engineering, Product, Data Science, and business stakeholders to align architecture decisions and technical priorities with company goals.
- Establish strong operational practices, including incident response readiness, service ownership, and continuous improvement processes.
- Balance long-term infrastructure investments with the immediate needs of a rapidly evolving product environment.
- Ensure technology platforms can support future products, customer experiences, and business growth initiatives.
- Stay technically engaged by contributing to architectural discussions, technical decisions, and operational improvements.
- Drive adoption of modern engineering practices across development, deployment, and infrastructure management.
Requirements
- Experienced engineering leader with a strong technical foundation and a proven ability to scale teams, systems, and processes in complex environments.
- 8+ years of software engineering experience, including experience leading engineering teams, managers, or senior technical contributors.
- Strong expertise across cloud infrastructure, backend systems, web technologies, and operational tooling.
- Hands-on experience managing and scaling systems on AWS.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, observability platforms, and modern software engineering practices.
- Experience supporting consumer-facing products or high-scale platforms is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to lead small, impactful teams with significant ownership and autonomy.
- Prominent success operating in ambiguous environments and making effective decisions despite changing priorities.
- Strong problem-solving skills, intellectual curiosity, and a proactive approach to execution.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership abilities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Familiarity with backend technologies such as Kotlin and Java is a plus.
