Position Responsibilities and Duties
- Hire, manage, and mentor a diverse team of engineers, focused on energy storage systems and design.
- Foster effective communication and collaboration between the Energy Storage Engineering group and cross-functional teams, including internal and external engineers, business development managers, project managers, pre-construction managers, procurement specialists, schedulers, estimators, and construction teams.
- Allocate resources effectively to meet project deadlines and ensure optimal team utilization.
- Overall management and responsibility of SOLV Energy Storage Engineering team, including establishing and maintaining department goals, budgets, and performance metrics.
- Establish and maintain partnerships with a diverse group of third-party Engineers-of-Record (EORs).
- Represent SOLV Engineering and management in customer and client meetings.
- Technical Oversight
- Oversee development of Energy Storage engineering standards and procurement specifications.
- Implement and maintain quality control processes to ensure designs comply with all owner, SOLV, AHJ, and vendor requirements.
- Proactively identify and resolve potential design and construction challenges and coordinate with various stakeholders to develop cost-effective solutions.
- Lead design efforts for interconnection systems, including coordinating utility approvals, ISO and NERC compliance, and energization plans.
- Strategic Initiatives
- Drive adoption of new technologies and best practices to optimize system performance, reliability, and cost.
- Develop innovative, customer-centric engineering solutions that address client needs, reduce cost, and enhance project value.
- Represent SOLV Energy team as a technical subject matter expert (SME) during client interviews/meetings as required.
- Stay informed on industry best practices and technological advancements in utility-scale energy storage design.
- Stay informed on relevant regulations, codes, and guidelines that may impact future SOLV project designs.
- Provide SME guidance/consultation to other departments within SOLV, as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (preferred).
- 10+ years of experience in engineering with a focus on Energy Storage, renewables, or power systems in an EPC or Owner/Engineer environment.
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in management.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred.
- Ability to travel up to 50% of the time will be needed.
- Proven track record of successfully designing and delivering utility-scale Energy Storage projects.
- Strong technical background in protection and control systems, relay settings, and NERC compliance.
- Demonstrated experience managing multidisciplinary teams and working in a fast-paced environment.
- Technical subject matter expert of applicable codes and standards (NEC, IEEE, IBC, ASCE, NESC, NFPA, utility standards) is preferred.
- Extensive experience with grid operations and regulatory requirements (FERC Order 841, IEEE 1547) is preferred.
- Strong understanding of fire protection requirements (UL9540, UL9540A, NFPA855).
- Deep knowledge of EPC engineering workflows, including design deliverables, submittals, document control, and coordination with engineering partners.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong sense of urgency.
- Ability to travel extensively throughout the United States, up to 50% of the time.
