Director of Engineering, Core Experience
About The Role
Own the technical strategy and delivery for the Core Experience organization, ensuring we’re building the systems and experiences that help members engage with the platform, discover value, and access membership benefits across Super.com.
Lead and develop Engineering Managers and their teams, providing coaching, clearing technical and organizational blockers, and driving strong performance across the organization.
Own the engineering systems behind Super+ membership value, including benefits, rewards, and credits that power member experiences across product verticals.
Lead development of key engagement and discovery surfaces, including the Super.com homepage and related experiences that help members explore the platform.
Build and evolve the membership management platform, enabling members to manage their membership, benefits, and value across the Super ecosystem.
Develop and scale the systems that power benefits and credits, ensuring they can support new membership offerings and experiences as the platform grows.
Provide the shared platform capabilities that allow these experiences to operate consistently across product verticals, while reducing duplication and improving delivery speed across teams.
Support the systems and workflows that enable customer operations and service teams to deliver a smooth and effective member experience.
Enable personalized discovery and cross-sell experiences across Super.com products in partnership with Product, Design, and Data teams.
Help drive the organization’s adoption of modern AI enabled engineering practices. This includes evolving development workflows, enabling teams to use AI effectively across design, implementation, and testing, and identifying opportunities where AI can unlock new product capabilities.
Ensure work is distributed effectively across teams and that collaboration with vertical product teams is clear and efficient.
Guide architecture and system design decisions, raising the technical bar and ensuring systems scale reliably.
Shape the organizational structure, hiring plans, and talent strategy for the Core Experience engineering group.
Continuously improve the product development lifecycle, balancing velocity with long-term system sustainability.
Contribute to cross-vertical engineering initiatives including architecture standards, guild leadership, and engineering best practices.

About The Team
Super.com engineering has four full-stack product development focus areas: fintech, travel, earnings, and a Super+ membership program to unite them all. Our dozens of microservices and event-driven architecture handle thousands of requests and events per second, ingest over 1TB of data per day, and process over $1MM per day in sales, leveraging state of the art infrastructure. We have more than 100 contributors to our codebase with highly skilled engineers across our teams. We work in close partnership with Product Managers, Designers, and QA in an agile/scrum, fast-paced, scaleup environment (that respects work/life balance). We focus on driving business value through ambitious technical achievement, and place a huge emphasis on providing the structure to fast-track our team members' growth.

What We’re Looking For
At least 5 years of people leadership experience, including managing managers and senior ICs, with 2+ of those years at a Director level or equivalent.
Proven success leading a multi-team engineering organization delivering consumer-facing products, shared platforms, or both.
Experience building or scaling membership platforms, rewards systems, credits or loyalty mechanisms, or other shared product capabilities used across multiple teams.
Experience owning or contributing to shared platform capabilities or product infrastructure that support multiple product areas or verticals.
Experience partnering closely with Product, Design, Growth, Data, Operations, and Finance teams to deliver systems that power engagement, value discovery, and member support.
Strong interest in modern AI enabled software development and a desire to help teams incorporate AI into their workflows in a thoughtful and effective way.
Strong track record of delivering major product or platform initiatives while balancing speed, reliability, and long-term sustainability.
Prior depth as a Senior Software Engineer or Technical Lead (3+ years minimum), with strong architectural judgment and the ability to guide senior engineers toward sound technical decisions.
Strong understanding of modern web architectures, distributed systems, and microservice design patterns.
Deep expertise in either backend or frontend systems design, with working knowledge across the stack to evaluate architectural tradeoffs.
Comfortable reviewing and guiding implementations within JavaScript and Python ecosystems.
Experience designing and operating services at meaningful scale, including performance, reliability, and observability considerations.
Proven ability to drive strategic engineering initiatives including organizational design, OKR planning, and multi-team alignment in fast-moving environments.
Background in startup or scale-up environments where ambiguity, speed, and iteration are part of daily life.

Experience building membership, loyalty, rewards, or credit-based systems.
Experience with personalization, recommendation systems, or AI-driven product experiences that improve discovery, cross-sell, or engagement.
Experience building homepage, discovery, or engagement surfaces in consumer products.
Experience working on shared platform capabilities that support multiple product teams or business areas.
Experience working on systems that support customer operations or service workflows tied to the user experience.
Experience integrating with payment platforms such as Braintree, Adyen, or similar providers, particularly in the context of subscriptions, memberships, or checkout experiences.
Experience working on consumer platforms with multiple product verticals where shared experiences connect the ecosystem.
Familiarity with our stack and ecosystem: Python, Node, React, Postgres, Redis, Docker, AWS, and related tools.
