Key Responsibilities
- Stays abreast of changing regulatory environment and oversees department compliance by interfacing with environmental personnel and outside consultants, attending meetings and seminars, and studying government regulations.
- Provides expertise on construction projects by specifying process equipment/instrumentation and materials by comparing what other industries are using, studying product information, and through past experience with vendors.
- Supervises project Engineers to facilitate design and construction of capital and non-capital projects by planning, directing and delegating work assignments, making purchasing decisions, scheduling, etc.
- Lead the largest and most complex capital projects from concept to completion.
- Interfaces with other departments to ensure projects are correctly prioritized and meet expectations by creating a formalized project management system to ensure that projects are passed from one department to the next in an orderly fashion and that pertinent input is obtained from each group.
- Evaluates capital expenditure proposals for the plant. Provides feedback on capital investment results to assure maximum return on capital investments.
- Responsible for identifying and developing the application for new technologies.
Typical Education
- Bachelor's Degree (B.A. or B.S.) from 4 year college or university
Relevant Experience
- 15+ years related experience and/or training
Other Information
- Extensive capital projects and budget development experience desired.
Knowledge
- Demonstrated knowledge relating to relevant design activities.
- Experience in Heavy industry, Knowledgeable of Plant processes / issues or Unit Operations is a plus.
- Extensive people management experience will be required at this level.
- Demonstrated knowledge of capital budget development experience is required.
- Significant experience in developing department budgets is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to be a leader of change.
- Previous experience managing technical groups will be preferred.

- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Must have good management and supervisory skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities at the same time.
- Demonstration of project management skills such as planning out work, developing budgets, tracking expenditures, assuring following up assignments and keeping appropriate documentation of activities.
- Must be able to accurately define problems, collect data, interpret analytical results, draw valid conclusions, and make recommendations to senior management.
