Director of Engineering
About the role
This position serves as the strategic leader for hotel maintenance and engineering operations. Key responsibilities include overseeing all engineering activities to ensure smooth operation of systems and services, providing outstanding guest service, and achieving financial profitability.
Responsibilities
- Provide guidance and direction to ensure overall departmental success
- Manage all Engineering activities to ensure smooth operation of all systems and services
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, building codes, and industry standards by establishing and enforcing safety protocols and procedures
- Maintain regular reports on engineering operations and ongoing projects for senior management
- Make routine inspections to identify potential hazards and address them as soon as possible
- Interpret data and make strategic decisions based on analytical thinking
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment inventories
- Lead others in the department by mentoring and providing training that results in staff that meets/exceeds guest expectations and provides a high level of guest satisfaction
- Successfully lead and coordinate staff in a high-volume, time-sensitive environment
Requirements
- Vocational schooling, military training, certification, and/or five years of experience with one year as a Director of Engineering or Chief Engineer in a similar setting
- Experience within a hotel/resort environment
- Strong working knowledge of building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, roofs, building finishes, and mechanical operations
- Ability to sit/stand for long periods of time
- Ability to work on AM, PM, weekend, and holiday shifts as required by operational needs
