About the Role

Provide leadership to plan and implement departmental strategic and operational goals that enable the program to achieve its purposes and advance the mission of Marion Technical College. Demonstrate aptitude to implement instructional strategies, teach assigned courses, assess student learning, develop curriculum, advise students, maintain accreditation, and grow community and employer partnerships.

Responsibilities

  • Network and promote programs with outside organizations and agencies; develop education relationships; and manage the development of engineering technology services and learning programs.
  • Apply department resources toward the development and innovation of credit and non-credit courses and curricula; investigate and implement new courses, programs, and instructional delivery methods, including distance and technology-mediated learning; supervise department instructional processes; improve the student assessment plan; and develop department projects consistent with instructional and strategic objectives.
  • Work with program advisory committees to support and manage the Engineering Technologies programs.
  • Provide direction to market department programs and assist in the recruitment, admission, advisement, and registration of students, in coordination with Admissions and Marketing.
  • Coordinate the articulation of department programs with high schools, colleges, and universities, including Career Pathways Support Networks.
  • Maintain accurate files on all department activities and course syllabi; promote Engineering Program career areas and disseminate appropriate information; schedule department meetings as required.
  • Network and create partnerships with employers, organizations, and companies to promote and support cooperative education and internship programs.
  • Collaborate with the Associate Dean of STEM in the oversight of marketing, instruction, equipment maintenance, and scheduling for the Mobile Training Lab.
  • Teach courses in accordance with established objectives and syllabus; evaluate student learning; provide continuity and reinforcement of the teaching/learning process; develop and maintain the department plan to assess student academic achievement.
  • Respond to inquiries from students, College employees, and customers in a timely manner; maintain confidentiality and privacy in accordance with College, HIPAA, FERPA, and other protected documentation policies.
  • Develop and maintain a team-based, customer service culture; monitor departmental activities and customer satisfaction; identify areas for improvement and implement plans to meet customer service standards.
  • Ensure department programs meet accreditation and approval standards; develop and advance the College and Engineering programs, curriculum, faculty, students, and policies in relation to accreditation requirements.
  • Provide leadership to develop and fulfill the College and department's mission, including instructional programming, new program development, communication with constituencies, enrollment management, evaluation and assessment of student learning, instructional support services, curriculum development, and program evaluation.
  • Conduct, maintain, and review program evaluations, assessment plans, accreditation reviews, and institutional program review data; develop schedules for program operations including faculty instructional schedules, classes, student advising, meetings, and accreditation preparation.
  • Manage program operations to sustain financial viability in accordance with institutional measures, including maintaining sufficient student enrollment; provide quality instruction and assessment relative to defined learning competencies.
  • Supervise department faculty and staff; organize and implement instructional staff development programs; coordinate with Human Resources to recruit, supervise, and evaluate staff; develop position descriptions; plan for succession; interview applicants; recommend hiring, promotion, or dismissal; and conduct annual performance appraisals.
  • Recruit and mentor adjunct faculty.
  • Plan, prepare, and administer the departmental annual budget; coordinate with the Business Office to plan, acquire, maintain, and secure inventory, facilities, and equipment.
  • Assist in the formulation, development, and implementation of policies and procedures; interpret policies for faculty and staff.
  • Maintain user proficiency for software programs, systems, and databases used by the College.
  • Maintain a current schedule to accommodate student learning and advising needs, including office hours, on- and off-campus meetings, and classes; maintain flexibility to meet instructional classroom schedules and visit off-campus sites as needed.
  • Assist department faculty and staff in developing educational plans to fulfill College and professional goals; participate in developing and implementing in-service programs and College activities to enhance teaching, learning, and support services.
  • Create and pursue a plan for professional development within the scope of work responsibilities, department, and College objectives, including higher educational degrees, certifications, and advancing current knowledge.
  • Maintain liaison with colleagues in other institutions and actively participate in professional associations; attend College meetings and serve on departmental and College committees as assigned.

Grant Responsibilities

  • Identify and pursue external funding opportunities that advance Engineering and STEM teaching, research, and student success initiatives.
  • Develop, write, and support submission of grant proposals in collaboration with faculty and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Manage awarded grants, including budget tracking, project deliverables, and compliance with sponsor and institutional requirements.
  • Maintain records and prepare required technical, financial, and progress reports for funding agencies.
  • Support faculty and students in leveraging grant resources for research, innovation, and experiential learning.

Academic Workload Requirements

A minimum of 80% of the position directly or indirectly involves responsibilities pertaining to teaching and learning in the program(s). The remaining 20% relates to other duties outlined in the job description. Expected teaching load is 16 workload hours in an academic year (8 workload hours in Spring and 8 workload hours in Fall).

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in an engineering field from a regionally accredited college or university preferred.
  • Significant years of professional experience working in the engineering field required.
  • Prior teaching experience in higher education strongly desired; experience with online curriculum development and/or non-credit training a plus.
  • Experience in mechanical and automation engineering a plus.
  • Excellent English, communication, and composition writing skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft® Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) with strong computer and technology skills.
  • Ability to work independently and complete projects with minimal direction and oversight.
  • Willingness to work an irregular schedule as assigned.
  • Ability to successfully pass background checks, including FBI/BCI, prior to and after employment.
  • Valid driver’s license or dependable transportation required.

ADA Specifications

This position is classified as Staff and will perform a wide range of administrative and teaching functions for the College, primarily in an office setting or classroom.
