About the role
The Director of Engineering leads multiple engineering organizations, including software, enterprise applications, data, and platform teams, within a complex and highly integrated technology ecosystem. This role oversees an environment centered on Salesforce, NetSuite, AWS, systems integration, and modern DevOps practices, with significant focus on Android development and heavily customized core calling platforms.
Responsibilities
Lead and oversee multiple engineering organizations, including software, enterprise applications, data, and platform teams, ensuring alignment with overall technology and business objectives.
Drive execution across a complex technology ecosystem centered on Salesforce, NetSuite, AWS, systems integration, and modern DevOps practices.
Provide strategic leadership with a focus of approximately 60–65% on leadership responsibilities and 35–40% on technical involvement, maintaining a strong balance between vision and execution.
Scale engineering teams by building, mentoring, and developing managers and technical leaders, fostering a culture of growth, innovation, and accountability.
Manage and guide Android development and core calling platform teams, including heavily customized in-house telecommunication and VoIP systems.
Ensure disciplined engineering project execution and operational readiness, establishing and enforcing best practices, standards, and processes.
Oversee SQL data aggregation and migration to Microsoft Fabric, coordinating closely with Business Insights teams to support Power BI reporting and analytics.
Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders across technical and business domains to define priorities, clarify requirements, and ensure successful delivery of initiatives.
Set strategic direction for engineering organizations while ensuring day-to-day operational excellence, reliability, and performance of systems and platforms.
Identify and drive improvements in systems integration, including APIs, microservices, and other integration patterns, to support scalable and resilient architectures.
Apply modern DevOps practices to improve deployment pipelines, automation, monitoring, and overall engineering efficiency.
Conduct team evaluation and talent assessment within the first 30 days to understand strengths, gaps, and organizational needs.
By 60 days, determine project timelines, outstanding deliveries, and critical gaps, creating clear plans and expectations for execution.
By 90 days, identify and remove roadblocks, improve delivery timelines, and develop plans to manage risk and ensure sustainable delivery.
Mentor and coach engineering leaders and individual contributors, promoting best practices in coding, design, testing, and operational support.
Communicate effectively with leadership and stakeholders, providing clear updates on progress, risks, and dependencies.
Support and occasionally participate in hands-on coding and technical design work, particularly in key systems and frameworks, to guide architectural decisions and maintain technical credibility.
Plan and coordinate flexible work schedules and limited travel (up to 10%), including some overnight trips, to support distributed teams and key initiatives.
Essential Skills
Proven experience leading multiple engineering organizations, including software, enterprise applications, data, and platform teams.
Strong experience working with AWS and enterprise applications in complex, integrated environments.
Hands-on coding skills, with the ability to contribute technically and guide engineering teams in modern programming frameworks.
Experience with SQL, including managing data aggregation and migration initiatives, and working with platforms such as Microsoft Fabric.
Demonstrated discipline in engineering project execution and ensuring operational readiness of systems and platforms.
Leadership experience with a focus of approximately 60–65% on leadership responsibilities and 35–40% on technical responsibilities.
Experience with DevOps and modern engineering practices, including automation, continuous integration, and continuous delivery.
Familiarity with database platforms, including SQL and NoSQL, and system integration patterns such as APIs and microservices.
Strong understanding of Agile and Scrum methodologies and their application in multi-team engineering environments.
Demonstrated ability to set strategic direction while maintaining operational excellence and consistent delivery.
Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and collaboration skills across technical and business domains.
Exceptional organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
Ability and willingness to work flexible hours and travel up to 10%, including some overnight travel.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in telecom, VoIP, or networking domains is a strong plus, particularly in environments with core calling platforms and telecommunication systems.
Experience working with Salesforce and NetSuite or similar enterprise applications in integrated ecosystems.
Familiarity with programming frameworks such as Node.js, Python, PHP, or similar modern languages and frameworks.
Experience coordinating with Business Insights or analytics teams to support reporting and data visualization tools such as Power BI.
Experience in mentoring and developing technical leaders, building high-performing teams and cultivating a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
Comfort working in highly customized, in-house system environments that require creative problem-solving and adaptability.
Work Environment
The role operates in a 100% remote work environment, collaborating with distributed engineering and business teams across multiple time zones. The technology ecosystem is heavily centered on Salesforce, NetSuite, AWS, and modern DevOps toolchains, with significant emphasis on systems integration, APIs, microservices, and data platforms such as Microsoft Fabric. Engineering teams support Android development and core calling platforms in a highly customized telecommunication and VoIP environment. The position requires flexibility in working hours to support a remote, collaborative culture and includes occasional travel of up to 10%, with some overnight trips, to support key initiatives and team alignment.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $164,300.00 - $209,500.00/yr. Can and will share benefits once a candidate is presented.
