Director of Emergency Room
Job Summary
The Department of Nursing Administration at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time TH Associate Administrator, Director of Emergency Room. The Director of Emergency Room plays a crucial role in the leadership of the services offered in the Emergency Department. The Emergency Department serves as the primary entry point to the University Hospital of Brooklyn at SUNY Downstate and is responsible for approximately 90% of inpatient admissions, including cardiac emergencies, delivering life-saving treatments and requiring exceptional leadership to maintain operational efficiency, ensuring patient safety, and providing clinical excellence.
Responsibilities
- Leadership & Strategic Oversight: In collaboration with the medical director, provide the strategic vision and leadership needed to discuss challenges such as staff retention, resource allocation, and patient outcomes. Ensure alignment with the organizational goals of a high-reliability organization.
- Clinical Expertise & Quality Care: Demonstrate dedicated specialized expertise in emergency care, enabling the department to stay abreast of advancements in medical technologies and best practices. Bring leadership that enhances patient outcomes through rigorous oversight of clinical standards and protocols.
- Operational Efficiency: Optimize workflows, improve resource utilization, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. Address service delivery gaps, mitigate risks, and enhance the overall patient experience.
Requirements
- Master of Science Degree.
- New York State Registered Nurse License.
- 5+ years of post-license work experience.
- 3+ years of specialty experience.
- 2+ years of management/supervisory experience.
- BLS/ACLS/PALS Certification.
- Experience with EHR, patient focused and empathic.
- Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
- Self-motivated, dynamic, creative.
- Able to work under pressure and on own initiative.
