Director of Education
About the Role
The Director of Education is responsible for the overall operations of the Academic Department at the campus level, ensuring compliance with institutional, accreditation, state, and federal policies and regulations, as well as Ancora’s standards, policies, and procedures. This role serves as a member of the Campus Leadership Team and supervises the Academic team, including the Academic Administrative Assistant/Registrar, Library/Learning Resource Center Point of Contact, Program Directors, faculty members, and other academic support staff.
Responsibilities
- Provides services to students:
- Coordinates and participates in facilitating the New Student Orientation Program each term.
- Provides an Orientation Program for re-entering students who have been out of school for more than one term.
- Establishes rapport with students to offer counsel, answer questions, and address concerns.
- Oversees Program Directors who provide academic advisement/counseling to students.
- Ensures probationary (SAP Not Met) students receive academic counseling and an academic plan is developed.
- Provides referrals to outside resources when advising needs exceed the school’s scope.
- Requires Program Directors to identify students in need of tutoring and refers them to instructors or peers.
- Responds to student requests for accommodations per established processes.
- Leads the Retention Program by planning, implementing, and directing effective student retention activities.
- Serves as the chair of the Academic Review Committee, facilitating hearings and documenting findings.
- Resolves student disciplinary problems and escalates as needed.
- Coordinates and supports student organization programs and school-sponsored activities.
- Interviews non-returning students to determine and document causes for leaving.
- Interviews re-entering students to assess readiness and dedication to academic goals.
- Oversees maintenance and improvements for student classrooms, library/resource center, and student lounge areas.
- Creates and maintains a Master Schedule of Classes:
- Develops and maintains a Master Schedule of Classes with a minimum student-teacher ratio of 20:1.
- Meets with each Instructor to discuss teaching assignments, course material, syllabi, and lesson plans.
- Maintains a Master Teaching Schedule for all Instructors.
- Ensures student and class schedules are created and distributed in a timely manner.
- Provides continuing students with class schedules for the next term prior to the final week of the current term.
- Provides new students with class schedules during orientation.
- Ensures classes take place as scheduled in all delivery modalities.
- Provides oversight and leadership to Program Directors:
- Hires Program Directors who meet credential requirements and demonstrate subject matter expertise.
- Holds Program Directors accountable for managing their programs, including working with Admissions and tracking retention.
- Requires and monitors Program Director participation in curriculum development and revision.
- Collaborates with Program Directors to analyze program-level graduation rates, placement rates, and employer satisfaction.
- Oversees Program Directors as they hire, train, supervise, develop, and evaluate faculty.
- Ensures Program Directors require and monitor instructor use of established curriculum and materials.
- Maintains an inventory of all equipment and learning materials required by the curriculum.
- Pre-approves outside guest speakers and student field trips, maintaining records of both.
- Provides oversight and leadership to the Library/Resource Center:
- Supervises the Library/Resource Center and its personnel.
- Oversees collection of utilization data and incorporation into Institutional Annual Improvement Plans (IAIPs).
- Embraces and facilitates hybrid/flex instructional delivery:
- Serves as Distance Learning Coordinator to support ground students taking online courses.
- Monitors the number of course sections offered on ground versus online.
- Analyzes student performance and satisfaction in online versus ground course sections.
- Drives student participation in online and hybrid courses.
- Supports and drives faculty engagement in hybrid course offerings.
- Manages academic data:
- Ensures integrity of academic record-keeping for all students, complying with institutional, accreditation, federal, and state guidelines.
- Oversees maintenance of accurate student files, attendance records, and population lists in CampusNexus.
- Ensures withdrawn and graduating students are processed in a timely manner.
- Audits student records to ensure completeness.
- Requires Program Directors to ensure Instructors maintain accurate attendance, grade books, and records.
- Certifies final grades and supervises their recording on permanent student records.
- Oversees evaluation of prior learning and award of transfer credit.
- Manages requests for proficiency examinations.
- Provides academic information and directs data collection, maintenance, and reporting:
- Ensures accuracy of academic information in Faculty Handbook, Student Handbooks, and the school Catalog.
- Ensures accuracy of grading legends on academic transcripts.
- Ensures academic and attendance records are prepared and updated in CampusNexus.
- Provides academic information for accreditation, federal (IPEDS), state licensure, and agency reports.
- Assists in preparation of Institutional Self-Studies and program approval materials.
- Submits materials to the Ancora Compliance team for review and approval.
- Contributes to the preparation of the IAIP.
- Participates in Program Advisory Committee meetings.
- Conducts annual student satisfaction surveys and oversees end-of-course surveys.
- Reviews evaluations with instructors and maintains results in personnel files.
- Leverages employment trend data from Career Services to inform program modifications.
- Advocates for hybrid and innovative instructional delivery methods.
- Oversees faculty performance and development:
- Provides quarterly in-service training programs for faculty.
- Follows the Ancora in-service training calendar and maintains records of sessions.
- Verifies faculty development activities, including annual Development Plans.
- Conducts pre-service orientation for new Instructors and provides mentors during their first term.
- Ensures Program Directors conduct annual performance reviews for instructors.
- Supports the Career Services Department:
- Works cross-functionally with the Director of Career Services to coordinate classroom visits for CareerEDGE workshops.
- Manages externship and practicum programs with Career Services support.
- Secures and retains employer relationships for externship, practicum, and placement purposes.
- Participates in Program Advisory Committees.
- Leads and develops others:
- Provides clearly defined roles and objectives, monitors performance, and provides feedback.
- Resolves performance issues to motivate and foster teamwork.
- Identifies opportunities for professional growth and challenging assignments.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- 3 years of experience in educational administration.
- 2 years of experience in a management or supervisory role.
- 3 years of experience in academic instruction in a post-secondary environment.
- Ability to qualify as an instructor.
Qualifications (Preferred)
- Master’s Degree.
- 5 years of experience in educational administration.
- 3 years of experience in a management or supervisory role.
- Experience with online instructional delivery and as an academic program director.
- Experience in student guidance or a related field.
- Experience managing a department, including P/L and staff responsibilities.
- Working knowledge of federal/state government education regulations.
