About the role

The Director of Communications works closely with the CMCO to lead the firm’s internal and external communications strategy, enhancing the firm’s reputation, brand visibility, market position and stakeholder engagement. This position manages a team of four and is responsible for strategic public relations, media relations, corporate communications, thought leadership, and social media. The Director partners closely with the CMCO to develop communications initiatives that support the firm’s strategic objectives, client growth, talent strategy and culture. This is a hybrid position, and can be resident in Chicago, IL, Kansas City, MO, or Dallas, TX.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute an integrated communications strategy aligned with the firm’s business objectives and strategic initiatives.
  • Strengthen and protect the firm’s reputation across all markets and stakeholder groups.
  • Advise on communication opportunities and reputational risks.
  • Establish key messaging and positioning for the firm, practice groups, industry teams and strategic initiatives.
  • Measure communication effectiveness and provide regular reporting.

Public Relations and Media Relations

  • Partner closely with Littler’s PR agency on media efforts and strategies to elevate the firm’s profile.
  • Develop relationships with key reporters within targeted media outlets.
  • Identify opportunities to further promote thought leadership.
  • Oversee speaking engagements, award submissions, rankings and industry recognition.
  • Partner with business development managers on market-specific PR strategy and execution.
  • Partner with global teams to further extend Littler’s brand visibility.

Internal Communications

  • Develop and implement internal communications strategies that enhance employee engagement and firm culture.
  • Manage communications related to key announcements and strategic initiatives.
  • Support change management and firmwide communications related to various transformation initiatives.
  • Ensure consistent messaging across offices and practice groups.

Digital Communications and Social Media

  • Supervise social media manager(s) to oversee the firm’s social media strategy.
  • Monitor industry trends and identify opportunities for digital innovation.

Qualifications

  • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strategic and creative thinking and business acumen
  • Ability to translate complex legal concepts into clear, compelling communications
  • Executive presence and confidence advising senior leaders
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment with keen attention to detail
  • Knowledge of legal industry trends and media landscape

Education & Certifications

Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, English or a related field.

Experience

  • 10+ years of communications, public relations and corporate communications experience
  • Experience in a law firm, professional services firm, or consulting firm strongly preferred
  • Proven track record managing media relations, corporate communications and reputation management
  • Experience leading communications teams and cross-functional initiatives

Pay

Pursuant to Illinois regulation, the annual salary range for this position is $185,200 – $224,100, contingent on relevant experience and education, and includes eligibility for performance-based bonuses.
