Director of Communications
Position Summary
The Director of Impact serves as the operational leader of Miracle Flights' Communications function, translating the Chief of Impact's strategic vision into integrated communications, marketing, public relations, brand, and storytelling initiatives that advance the organization's mission.
Essential Job Functions
Communications Leadership: Provide operational leadership for Miracle Flights' Communications function by translating the Impact Division's strategic priorities into integrated communications plans, campaigns, and scalable systems. Responsibilities include developing and executing integrated annual communications plans, campaign priorities, and performance measures that advance the Impact Division's strategic priorities; ensuring consistent messaging, brand standards, and storytelling across all communications; advising the Chief of Impact on communications opportunities, trends, and emerging issues; and continuously improving communications processes and operational effectiveness.
Media Relations & Public Relations: Lead Miracle Flights' media relations efforts to strengthen organizational reputation and increase regional and national awareness. Responsibilities include developing, distributing, and following up on press releases, media pitches, advisories, and other media materials; identifying, pitching, and securing earned media opportunities that advance Miracle Flights' mission and strategic priorities; coordinating media interviews, media logistics, and spokesperson preparation; identifying and pursuing earned media opportunities that elevate Miracle Flights' mission; monitoring media coverage, maintaining media tracking, and recommending proactive public relations opportunities; and maintaining an editorial calendar of media opportunities, awareness campaigns, and newsworthy organizational milestones.
Community & Strategic Engagement: Lead Miracle Flights' participation in conferences, community partnerships, and external engagement opportunities that increase organizational visibility, strengthen strategic relationships, and advance the Impact Division's priorities. Responsibilities include developing and managing the annual calendar of conferences, beneficiary opportunities, community partnerships, and external engagement activities; evaluating and recommending external engagement opportunities that align with Miracle Flights' organizational goals, target audiences, and strategic priorities; coordinating Miracle Flights' participation in conferences, healthcare events, beneficiary partnerships, community events, and other non-Miracle Flights-hosted engagements; collaborating with the Director of Outreach to maximize relationship-building opportunities with healthcare providers, treatment sites, and strategic partners at conferences and industry events; coordinating communications, marketing materials, promotional assets, and event messaging to ensure a consistent brand presence across all external engagements; developing post-event communications and follow-up plans that maximize visibility, relationship development, and organizational impact; and evaluating the effectiveness of conferences and community engagement activities and recommending future participation based on organizational value and return on investment.
Content Strategy & Brand Communications: Lead the development and execution of Miracle Flights' content strategy, storytelling, and brand communications across all owned channels. Responsibilities include developing and overseeing organizational content strategy and editorial planning; leading mission-driven storytelling across website, email, social media, digital communications, and other owned channels; developing communications that support earned media, executive visibility, and organizational thought leadership; ensuring brand consistency across all communications and marketing materials; partnering across the organization to identify and develop stories that advance Miracle Flights' mission, strategic priorities, and organizational visibility; protecting the integrity of Miracle Flights' voice, messaging, and visual identity; and managing digital communications ecosystems to maximize engagement, awareness, and organizational impact.
Digital Communications: Lead Miracle Flights' digital communications ecosystem to maximize engagement, awareness, and organizational impact. Responsibilities include managing Miracle Flights' website, social media, email marketing, SEO, and digital advertising; optimizing digital content for engagement, accessibility, and performance; managing digital communications calendars and campaign execution; coordinating digital communications vendors and technology partners.
Communications Performance: Use data and performance insights to strengthen organizational communications and support continuous improvement. Responsibilities include monitoring communications performance across all channels; developing executive dashboards and communications reports; analyzing audience engagement and campaign performance; and recommending operational improvements based on communications data.
Communications Operations: Manage the operational execution of the Communications function to ensure projects, vendors, and resources support organizational priorities. Responsibilities include prioritizing and coordinating communications projects and workflows; managing relationships with external vendors; allocating communications resources to support organizational priorities; establishing operational processes that improve efficiency, consistency, and quality; and collaborating across Miracle Flights to ensure communications support organizational priorities and amplify organizational impact.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate across Miracle Flights to ensure communications support organizational priorities and amplify organizational impact. Responsibilities include partnering with Philanthropy team to ensure consistent brand representation and communications support for organizational priorities; collaborating with the Director of Outreach to amplify the Healthcare Referral Ecosystem and Family Experience through integrated communications; supporting Executive Leadership through executive communications, organizational initiatives, and strategic projects.
Additional Essential Functions
Represent Miracle Flights professionally with media, partners, and community stakeholders; serve as a positive ambassador for Miracle Flights' mission, values, and culture; maintain the confidentiality of sensitive organizational information; participate in organizational planning, leadership meetings, and cross-functional initiatives; and travel as required.
Perform additional duties as assigned in support of the organization's mission and strategic priorities.
Education & Experience
Preferred qualifications include: Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field; five or more years of experience in communications, marketing, public relations, or brand management; experience leading integrated communications and media relations initiatives; experience managing digital communications and content strategy; nonprofit or mission-driven communications experience preferred.

Salary
Compensation starting at $75,000 annually, commensurate with experience. An employee’s pay position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, travel requirements, any contractual agreements, and business or organizational needs. The range listed is just one component of Miracle Flights' total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, a Paid Time Off policy, and region-specific benefits.
