About the role

The Talent Director of Communications will lead Relay’s communications efforts, including earned media, executive communications, and internal comms. Reporting to the VP of Marketing, this role will build a robust communications function to support Relay’s growth and brand positioning.

Responsibilities

  • Own Relay’s earned media presence end-to-end, including media strategy, press coverage, executive thought leadership, and reactive comms.
  • Lead the relationship with the PR agency, setting the strategic agenda, driving accountability on coverage outcomes, and ensuring alignment with internal priorities.
  • Build and manage a proactive media program, expanding relationships with reporters covering fintech, SMB, and entrepreneurship beats, and pitching stories before they need to be pitched.
  • Own executive communications for the CEO and leadership team, including speech writing, op-eds, LinkedIn presence, and media prep.
  • Drive communications around product launches, brand campaigns, and company milestones, partnering with Product Marketing and Brand to build integrated announcement plans.
  • Maintain and monitor brand reputation, developing a clear crisis communications playbook and responding quickly to issues.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have 8+ years of experience in communications, PR, or corporate affairs, with a proven track record in high-growth environments. They must have experience owning a media program, including building relationships with reporters and driving coverage outcomes. Strong executive communications skills are essential, including the ability to write for a CEO and shape a founder’s public presence.

Qualifications

The candidate should have a bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or a related field. Experience in a regulated or compliance-adjacent environment is preferred.

Benefits

Relay offers competitive compensation, including a range of $216,000 to $264,000 per year, with a typical starting salary of $240,000. The company also provides a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement savings options, and paid time off.

Schedule

Full-time, Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM
