About the role

The ACLU seeks a full-time, experienced professional to join our team. This role is a unique opportunity to work on the front lines of defending civil liberties and civil rights.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategic advocacy campaigns.
  • Conduct legal and policy analysis on a range of civil rights issues.
  • Draft legal documents, reports, and public communications.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across departments and with external partners.
  • Engage with community stakeholders and coalitions.
  • Represent the ACLU in public forums and with government officials.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to a state bar and eligibility for admission to the relevant jurisdiction.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of legal practice experience, preferably in civil rights or public interest law.
  • Strong written and oral advocacy skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to civil liberties and social justice.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Skills

  • Excellent legal research and analytical abilities.
  • Effective communication and negotiation skills.
  • Experience with litigation and/or legislative advocacy.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Proficiency with legal research databases and standard office software.
