About the role

The Director of Communications is responsible for leading POOLCORP’s enterprise communications strategy to strengthen the company’s reputation with employees, customers, suppliers, trade and industry partners, and local communities. This role develops and executes integrated communications, public relations, executive communications, and brand storytelling aligned to the company’s purpose, culture, and business priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and executes POOLCORP’s enterprise communications and brands storytelling strategy, ensuring consistent, relatable messaging across all audiences.
  • Owns and evolves POOLCORP’s enterprise narrative, ensuring our story is consistently communicated across every audience, channel, and executive touchpoint.
  • Led reputation management efforts, proactively building and protecting the company’s brand and public image within the trade and local markets.
  • Develops and executes public relations programs that elevate POOLCORP’s leadership, strengthen relationships with industry organizations, and generate meaningful, relevant coverage.
  • Serves as the primary communications advisor to executive leadership, providing strategic counsel on messaging, organizational announcements, change management, and business communications.
  • Leads executive communications including speeches, keynote presentations, leadership messages, Board support materials, town halls, video communications, and enterprise initiatives.
  • Oversees enterprise content strategy across presentations, internal communications, corporate events, customer events, digital communications, and thought leadership.
  • PARTNERS CLOSER WITH MARKETING, FINANCE, HR, SALES, OPERATIONS, AND EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP TO ENSURE COMMUNICATIONS SUPPORT KEY BUSINESS PRIORITIES AND RESONATE WITH TRADE AUDIENCES.
  • Develops messaging frameworks that simplify complex business strategies, financial information, operational initiatives, and industry topics into clear, practical, and engaging stories.
  • LEADS COMMUNICATION PLANNING FOR MAJOR CORPORATE INITIATIVES, ORGANIZATIONAL CHANGES, ACQUISITIONS, PRODUCT LAUNCHES, AND STRATEGIC PROGRAMS.
  • Develops and maintains crisis communications plans and provide communications leadership during business-critical events.
  • OVERSEES COMMUNICATION STRATEGY AND CONTENT FOR ENTERPRISE MEETINGS, LEADERSHIP CONFERENCES, CUSTOMER EVENTS, SUPPLIER MEETINGS, AND LARGE-SCALE CORPORATE PRODUCTIONS.
  • ESTABLISHES EDITORIAL STANDARDS, MESSAGING GUIDELINES, AND GOVERNANCE TO ENSURE CONSISTENCY WHILE MAINTAINING AN AUTHENTIC, APPROACHABLE VOICE.
  • MANAGES AGENCY PARTNERS, PUBLIC RELATIONS FIRMS, FREELANCE RESOURCES, AND EXTERNAL VENDORS AS NEEDED.
  • MESURES COMMUNICATIONS EFFECTIVENESS AND CONTINUOUSLY IMPROVE ENGAGEMENT, REACH, AND REPUTATION ACROSS STAKEHOLDER GROUPS.

Requirements

  • 5 – 8+ years of progressive experience in communications, public relations, brand communications, or a related field.
  • Experience leading both internal and external communications strategies within a complex B2B organization.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills with the ability to communicate complex ideas with clarity, authenticity, and impact.
  • Strong executive presence with experience partnering directly with senior leaders and executives.
  • Proven experience developing executive presentations, speeches, strategic messaging, and enterprise communications.
  • Strong visual communication skills with the ability to guide presentation design and ensure messaging and design work together to tell compelling stories.
  • Experience leading reputation management and strategic public relations initiatives.
  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to manage multiple high-profile initiatives simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills with the ability to influence across all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and manage confidential information with discretion.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting executive leadership, investor relations, or board communications.
  • Experience designing content for large conferences, keynote presentations, or live events.
  • Experience working in Microsoft PowerPoint, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign), and Figma.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel, Think-Cell, Power BI, Tableau, or other data visualization tools.
  • Degree in Communications, Marketing, or related discipline.
