Director of Clinical Services: San Diego

About the role

The Director of Clinical Services provides clinical direction and administrative oversight of a specific program, ensuring clinical excellence through developing, implementing, and monitoring clinical quality. This position also manages administrative responsibilities, including program oversight and staff supervision, while being accountable for performance, financial, and growth goals.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all aspects of the program to ensure quality and initiate improvements as needed.
• Hire and train new therapists, dietitians, and nurses, collaborating with specialists for guidance.
• Guide the professional development of staff, including therapists, dietitians, and nurses.
• Provide supervision of program staff and work closely with Lead Therapist, Lead Dietitian, and Lead Nurse/DON to ensure clinically appropriate, effective, and ethical treatment.
• Coordinate medical care with physicians and follow through with their directives.
• Oversee admissions and integration into the therapeutic community.
• Ensure client paperwork (intake reports, files, progress reports, treatment plans) is up to date and compliant with regulatory standards.
• Conduct assessments of treatment program effectiveness, addressing strengths and weaknesses.
• Serve as a liaison between treatment programs and community entities (families, referral sources).
• Manage scheduling, overtime, vacation, and sick time for supervisees.
• Conduct or coordinate weekly supervision for therapists and dietitians, sharing outcome measures and reviewing documentation.
• Maintain program compliance with accreditation board guidelines and enhance patient safety awareness.
• Review stakeholder feedback (Perception of Care surveys) and revise program offerings as needed.
• Develop and deliver in-services, education sessions, presentations, and training for clients, families, staff, and caregivers.
• Write and submit proposals for industry-specific conference presentations (e.g., iaedp).
• Support Utilization Review by facilitating communication between treatment team members and UR for insurance and peer-to-peer reviews.
• Collaborate with local outreach representatives to engage referral sources monthly.

Requirements

• Master’s Degree in Social Work, Clinical Counseling, or other relevant health-related discipline.
• 3+ years of progressively responsible experience in a leadership role and a minimum of 2+ years of recent experience working with eating-disordered clients (or equivalent education/training).
• Experience partnering with an executive team.
• Licensed as a Clinical Counselor in the state where the position is located (preferred).
