Director of Clinical Documentation Integrity
Job Description
Responsible for overseeing the review processes of complex patients with varying acute and chronic disease states. Promotes effective and efficient review of physician documentation to support patient care levels, and develops action plans for improvement. Participates in operational planning, design, and implementation of assigned programs, and develops partnerships with senior leaders and key physician leaders to achieve high-quality clinical documentation.
Provides leadership and guidance to staff, ensuring alignment with organizational diversity objectives and professional development. Directs the daily operations of the Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI) department, ensuring efficient and effective workflows. Identifies process improvement opportunities and develops, implements, and monitors action plans based on CDI metrics. Educates and mentors CDI staff on data interpretation and performance of causal analysis, reporting findings to leadership.
Manages recruitment, hiring, coaching, development, and performance evaluation of CDI staff. Facilitates change management within the CDI department to support a high-performance culture. Ensures compliance with CDI-associated regulatory standards and requirements. Compiles and reviews budgets and justifications for the department, assisting with financial planning. Participates in strategic planning and direction for the development and enhancement of CDI program services.
Qualifications
- Understanding of CDI best practices
- CDI or Quality-related leadership experience
- Ability to research and reason best practices to support process improvement
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to analyze, evaluate and monitor data in addition to providing action plans
- Supports positive employee relations and customer experience
- Ability to work in a matrix-management environment to achieve organizational goals
- Ability to establish and manage complex and effective relationships
- Up-to-date knowledge of ICD-10 mandate and the impact of code set transition

- Knowledge of change management principles, methodologies, and tools
- Maintains certification/credentialing in clinical documentation requirements
- Knowledge of hospital reimbursement models and trends
- Ability to analyze complex case data and provide detailed guidance on improving documentation efforts
- Ability to present effectively to individuals or groups and deliver presentations suited to the audience's needs
- Demonstrated ability to motivate individuals to achieve alignment with the organization’s vision and values
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize responsibilities, measure progress and validate accountabilities against metrics
- Advanced clinical practice within the acute care hospital setting
- Expertise in industry practice and standards of Clinical Documentation and Coding
- Certification by relevant professional societies in Clinical documentation
- Clinical experience and expertise as a licensed health care provider
- Knowledge of Clinical quality and safety standards and reporting
- Knowledge and familiarity with leading analytics in the clinical documentation field
- Knowledge of Electronic Health Records
- Exceptional people management, leadership skills and the capacity to relate to people in a manner that wins confidence and establishes support

Education
- Bachelor's of Nursing
- Master's (Preferred)
Work Experience
- 2+ leadership experience (Preferred)
- 2+ recent clinical documentation experience (Required)
- 5+ years acute care nursing experience with specific medical/surgical, intensive care, post-acute care unit, or emergency department experience (Required)
Licenses And Certifications
- EDCMG (Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates) (Required)

$96,266.14 - $179,045.63
