About the Role

OUR NATIONAL CONVERSATION (ONC) is a 501(c)(3) nonpartisan media outlet run largely by student interns. We're seeking an educational leader to create and lead a new education division, separate from our media venture, that can develop curriculum, build relationships with school systems, and bring our civic education ideas to market.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and launch of ONC's education division
  • Create curriculum and educational products for civics education
  • Develop sales strategies and partnerships with school systems, publishers, and strategic partners in the civic education space
  • Help determine fundraising needs and strategies or bootstrap efforts toward marketable products
  • Supervise and direct student interns assigned to support education initiatives
  • Figure out the path to monetizing educational offerings

Qualifications

  • Respected educational leader with expertise in curriculum development
  • Leadership experience
  • Experience selling to school systems or similar educational institutions
  • Experience building organizations or companies (or willingness to try)
  • Knowledge of the civic education space (preferred)

Compensation

This is a startup opportunity with no initial pay. Compensation will be dependent on successfully raising funds or generating revenue through product sales. Partnership arrangements are also welcome for those already working in the educational space.

About Our Organization

ONC is a nonpartisan media outlet focused on reducing toxic partisanship and fostering solution-oriented dialogue. Our student interns (mostly college, some high school and graduate students) write articles, host podcasts, produce social media posts, and are about to launch an e-newsletter. We have hosted over 900 interns from across the U.S. and aim to become a trusted source of fair, accurate, and balanced information about politics and public policy.

We operate with 65-75 interns each semester, with typical turnover of about one-third per semester as students graduate or move on. Experienced mentors guide our students, and we seek to develop America's future leaders with hands-on experience.
