The Director of Benefits is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Benefits Department including supervision of staff, administration of health and welfare benefit programs, and administration of leaves of absence.Benefits

Responsibilities
- Direct and oversee the daily operations of the Benefits Department
- Serve as the primary liaison with benefit carriers, consultants, third-party administrators, and leave management vendors, including providing data to third-party vendors for the management of health and welfare plans and retirement plans
- Reviews, reconciles and approves billing statements
- Maintain compliance with ERISA, ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, Section 125, FMLA, and other applicable regulations governing employee benefits and leave of absence
- Write and distribute communications to employees regarding benefits programs
- Develop and implement process improvements to enhance operational efficiency and customer service
- Answer phone calls and respond to employee and retiree requests
- Professionally resolve employee and retiree issues and problems
- Collaborate with Human Resources, Finance, Payroll, Legal, and organizational leadership on benefits and leave-related initiatives
- Project a professional company image through all interactions
Education
Bachelor's degree preferredRequirements/Qualifications
- Minimum of three years supervising/managing a Benefits Department
- Minimum of five years working in benefits for in both union and non-union environments
- Excellent written and verbal skills
- Knowledge of Federal, State and Local laws including ERISA and HIPAA
- Ability to work well under stress in a busy, fast paced environment while maintaining an even temperament
- Skills in establishing and maintaining effective professional working relationships with staff and vendors
- Comfortable handling and resolving issues and problems with diplomacy and professionalism
- Strong computer and accurate data entry skills
- May require travel for meetings, conferences, or training
- Able to sit, stand, and use standard office equipment for extended periods
Work Schedule
Work week is Monday - Friday and occasional weekends. Must be able to work a flexible schedule since start time can vary and often be very early due to scheduling of enrollment meetings, etc.Preferred
