Role DescriptionThe University of Northern Colorado seeks a collaborative and forward-thinking Director of Assessment to provide strategic leadership for institutional assessment in support of academic quality and student learning. Reporting to the Assistant Provost for Academic Effectiveness, the Director works closely with faculty, department chairs, deans, academic governance bodies, and university leadership to strengthen student learning through thoughtful curriculum design, meaningful assessment, and evidence-informed improvement. The Director leads the university's assessment strategy by developing sustainable frameworks, policies, and practices that support the meaningful evaluation of student learning and program effectiveness. The position plays a key role in curriculum development and approval by consulting with academic programs on curriculum design and alignment, reviewing program learning outcomes, curriculum maps, and assessment plans, and helping ensure that new and revised academic programs are intentionally designed to achieve their educational goals. The Director also provides leadership for assessment components of regional accreditation, chairs the University Assessment Council, collaborates with partners across the institution to strengthen assessment data systems, and develops professional learning opportunities that build faculty capacity for assessment and curriculum improvement. Success in this role depends on the ability to build strong relationships, facilitate collaboration across diverse stakeholders, and translate assessment evidence into practical strategies that strengthen academic quality. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys partnering with faculty, connecting assessment with curriculum and educational quality, and building practical systems that support continuous institutional improvement. QualificationsRequired QualificationsMaster's degree in higher education, educational research, assessment and evaluation, curriculum and instruction, institutional effectiveness, or a closely related field. At least five years of progressively responsible experience in higher education assessment, institutional effectiveness, accreditation, or a related area. Demonstrated experience leading assessment initiatives that inform curriculum, student learning, and academic improvement. Experience collaborating effectively with faculty, academic leaders, and administrators across multiple disciplines. Strong knowledge of regional accreditation expectations and best practices in higher education assessment. Excellent communication, facilitation, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence and build consensus across diverse stakeholders. Preferred QualificationsDoctoral degree in a relevant discipline. Experience with curriculum design, curriculum mapping, and academic program approval processes. Experience leading institution-wide accreditation activities. Experience developing faculty learning opportunities related to assessment or curriculum. Experience with assessment data systems and data visualization tools. Active engagement in national or regional assessment, accreditation, or higher education organizations.
