Director Of Aerospace Technology

Full-time, on-site, 12-month faculty position at University of Arkansas - Pulaski Technical College.

About the role

Oversee the Aerospace Technology Program under the supervision of the Dean of Technical and Professional Studies. Responsibilities include day-to-day operations, budgets, scheduling, collaboration with the main campus, coordination of student testing, FAA reporting and record-keeping, faculty support, and communication with UA-PTC shared services offices. Teaching may be required to ensure full program operations and may cover aerospace subject areas such as aviation physics, basic electricity, technical math, aircraft engine overhaul, sheet metal, aircraft systems, avionics systems, fuel systems, auxiliary systems, turbine engines, lubrication systems, and propeller systems.

Responsibilities

• Participate in ongoing curriculum development, implementation, assessment, and evaluation.
• Promote innovative teaching strategies to meet learning objectives as defined by federal aviation regulations.
• Plan and organize lesson plans, reference materials, syllabi, and aerospace-specific training aids.
• Maintain professional competence and participate in professional development activities.
• Hold advisory committee meetings every fall and spring, along with career fairs at Aerospace Technology.
• Establish and maintain positive collaborative working relationships with students, colleagues, and staff.
• Maintain thorough knowledge of the aerospace field and federal aviation regulations.
• Support high academic standards and student success through advising, student folder maintenance, and awareness of national program trends and modernization.
• Attend conferences and actively recruit and market the program with UA-PTC marketing and recruiting offices.
• Ensure clear communication and collaboration with UA-PTC academic offices for process and procedures.
• Configure the program to ensure opportunities for students to graduate with an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree.
• Prepare students for the Airframe and Powerplant (A & P) licensure exam.
• Maintain high student success rates through a high-quality program.
• Collaborate with UA-PTC for non-credit or accelerated training for Air Force and Air Guard members.
• Adhere to UA-PTC policies and procedures.
• Perform other related tasks as assigned while maintaining an established schedule.

Requirements

• FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A & P) rating license (required).
• High school diploma or equivalent, plus one year of experience in a specialized or related area.
• Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; customer-oriented with the ability to develop and maintain good rapport with students, co-workers, and staff.
• Dependability, reliability, punctuality, and confidentiality.
• Strong judgment, decision-making, ethics, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Inspection Authorization (IA).
• Two years of teaching experience in an FAA-certified instructional facility as an A & P instructor.
• Associate’s degree or higher in an Aerospace field.
• Certification as a test proctor for FAA exams.
• Designated mechanic examiner status.
