Director of Accounts Payable

About the role

We are looking for an accomplished accounts payable leader to provide steady direction for a global manufacturing organization in Huntsville, Alabama. This Long-term Contract opportunity is ideal for someone who is detail oriented and can quickly assess operations, guide a high-performing team, and maintain strong financial controls during a period of leadership coverage. The role will focus on keeping payables processes efficient, supporting close activities, and strengthening end-to-end procure-to-pay performance.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day leadership for the accounts payable function, setting priorities and ensuring timely, accurate processing across the department.
• Oversee invoice handling, payment execution, and vendor account management to maintain operational continuity and strong service levels.
• Direct month-end close support related to payables, including reconciliations, accrual coordination, and resolution of outstanding items.
• Partner with finance, procurement, and operational stakeholders to improve alignment across the procure-to-pay cycle.
• Use SAP to monitor workflows, review transaction quality, and drive consistency in accounts payable reporting and controls.
• Identify process gaps and implement practical improvements that increase efficiency, compliance, and transparency within AP operations.
• Supervise, coach, and support accounts payable staff, creating accountability and helping the team meet performance expectations.
• Maintain internal controls and ensure policies are followed in accordance with company standards and financial governance requirements.

Requirements

• Proven experience leading accounts payable operations at a senior manager or director level within a complex organization.
• Strong knowledge of month-end close activities and the impact of payables on broader accounting processes.
• Hands-on experience working in SAP within an accounts payable or procure-to-pay environment.
• Demonstrated understanding of end-to-end procure-to-pay workflows and related financial controls.
• Ability to step into an interim leadership role quickly and provide structure, direction, and sound decision-making.
• Background supporting manufacturing or other large-scale operational businesses is highly preferred.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively across finance and business teams.
