About the role
As the Director of Accounting Policy within PNC's Finance organization, you will be based in Pittsburgh, PA. The Accounting Policy team is part of the Corporate Controller organization and is managed by the Control Leadership Team. This key leadership role offers high visibility to the Controller’s and CFO’s leadership teams.
A successful candidate will navigate varied business activities, collaborate across the Finance organization and PNC’s lines of business, and apply a strong foundation in technical accounting. This role builds long-term knowledge positioning the individual for advancement within the Accounting Policy team or other positions in Control or Finance.
PNC’s Accounting Policy team is selective in its recruiting, aiming to provide high-performing talent to the broader Finance organization and other areas of PNC.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with PNC Finance line of business personnel to review and analyze significant, complex business transactions, determining proper technical accounting treatment and consolidated reporting under US GAAP.
- Monitor, evaluate, and influence the development and implementation of emerging accounting requirements from the FASB, SEC, and other regulatory bodies.
- Independently formulate opinions and provide updates on emerging accounting issues for discussion with the Director of Accounting Policy and the Corporate Controller.
- Proactively engage lines of business in assessing impacts and participating in the accounting standard-setting process, including coordination with standard setters and regulators to advocate Company positions.
- Lead efforts to define the company’s application and implementation of new accounting standards, SEC, and other regulatory reporting matters.
- Design, develop, and communicate additions or updates to corporate accounting policies, assessing risk and mitigation options.
- Carry out the review process with senior management and executives to gain insight and approval.
- Continually evaluate departmental processes and recommend improvements.
- Establish and maintain strong, collaborative partnerships with the Company’s external auditors and regulators.
- Support lines of business in initiatives and projects requiring technical accounting expertise.
- Provide leadership and management for all aspects of accounting activities, including financial analysis, internal and external reporting, and compliance.
- Ensure accounting policies, operating procedures, and practices align with PNC’s mission and goals, working closely with internal auditors, external accountants, and banking regulators.
- Oversee and evaluate professional and administrative staff, directing recruiting, coaching, and talent pipeline development.
- Direct the analysis and resolution of routine accounting issues, ensuring proper accounting and reporting for complex transactions.
- Oversee production processes summarizing and forecasting business activity and financial position.
- Identify and direct opportunities for process improvements.
- Direct the production of accurate and timely financial reports for internal and external use, adhering to GAAP, regulatory guidance, and Sarbanes-Oxley Act compliance.
Qualifications
Successful candidates must demonstrate appropriate knowledge, skills, and abilities for the role.
- Preferred Skills: Balance Sheets, Decision Making, Finance, Financial Reporting and Analysis, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Management Reporting, Tax Analysis.
- Competencies: Accounting, Accuracy and Attention to Detail, Budgeting, Effective Communications, Financial Analysis, Financial And Accounting Systems, Financial Reporting, General Ledger (G-L), Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Internal Controls, Sarbanes-Oxley Compliance.
- Work Experience: Typically requires a university/college degree. Higher-level education (e.g., Masters, PhD, or certifications) is desirable. Industry-relevant experience is typically 8+ years, with at least 5 years of prior management experience. Proven leadership with a moderate to large scope of responsibility is required. In lieu of a degree, a comparable combination of education, job-specific certifications, and experience (including military service) may be considered.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree.
