Location: Avera Marshall Hospital – Primarily days with night, weekend, and holiday on-call involvement

Salary Range: $125,000–150,000 annually. May be eligible for a $30,000 sign-on bonus.

About the role

Responsible for providing care and services to meet the needs of the assigned facilities through strategic and accountable leadership. This includes the establishment, implementation, and adherence to policies and procedures, coordination of orientation programs for new staff, development and engagement of existing staff, and leading quality improvement activities. Develops monitoring tools, collects data, and uses data to drive improvements in care and services.

Responsibilities

  • Provide total nursing care of residents and ensure the accuracy of nursing care records.
  • Participate in the selection of prospective residents based on nursing care needs and nursing personnel competencies.
  • Oversee all Federal/State SNF Conditions of Participation, including admissions, MDS/Care planning process, restorative nursing, and care delivery.
  • Establish and implement policies/procedures for the total care of residents, including nursing activities, social services, and delegated medical care.
  • Determine, along with the Administrator, the numbers and levels of nursing personnel; establish staffing patterns to provide quality nursing care 24 hours/day.
  • Participate in planning, decision-making, and budgeting for the facility.
  • Remain aware of safety needs for staff and residents; develop policies relevant to quality of care.
  • Coordinate the QAPI program and facilitate staff participation in QAPI.
  • Delegate and monitor non-nursing responsibilities to other staff consistent with their training, experience, competence, and legal authorization.
  • Understand and coordinate Medicare/Medicaid coverage requirements.
  • Ensure a comprehensive plan of care is established and implemented per regulations for each resident.
  • Interact with physicians/providers to plan care for residents.
  • Ensure discharge and transfer planning for residents is conducted.
  • Handle interviewing, hiring, developing, training, and retaining employees; plan, assign, and lead work; appraise performance; reward and coach employees; address complaints and resolve problems.

  • Must be able to work the hours specified.
  • Must have visual acuity adequate to perform position duties and the ability to communicate effectively with others, hear, understand, and distinguish speech and other sounds.

Qualifications

  • Required:
    • Registered Nurse (RN) – active license in the state of practice (upon hire).
    • 4–6 years of experience in long-term/skilled care or similar.
  • Preferred:
    • 1–3 years of leadership experience.
