Director, Nursing Long-Term Care- Unity Living Center (Full time, day shift)

About the Role
The Director serves as a nursing leader for Long Term Care in the Rochester Regional Health system. This role is responsible for leading nursing services and nursing practice in accordance with the purpose, vision, and values of Rochester Regional Health. The Director oversees the overall management and daily coordination of nursing operations, including goal setting, talent management, fiscal operations, and adherence to regulatory standards. This individual collaborates with facility, divisional, and system leaders on quality, financial, resident satisfaction, recruitment, retention, and other initiatives. The role ensures the implementation of an integrated healthcare delivery system, fosters resident advocacy, clinical competence, and accountability for resident outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Talent Management:
- Recruit and retain talent to support the aligned business area.
- Foster a team-based environment that collaborates across multiple disciplines for continuous improvement and engagement.
- Monitor and recognize performance; support professional development.
- Engage with staff to answer operational questions and provide guidance.
- Maintain visibility within the facility through rounding and participation in activities.
- Encourage staff participation in facility and system feedback tools (e.g., Employee Engagement & Safety Survey).
- Develop plans to address feedback and measure outcomes.
- Ensure compliance with HR-related processes, including employee evaluations, position control, and Workday functions.
- Support partnerships with organizations related to student rotations/placements.
- Operations and Finance:
- Develop, maintain, and manage staffing levels to support clinical care.
- Monitor and manage variances in clinical, regulatory, and financial operations.
- Partner with administration to achieve financial stewardship through budget management.
- Follow system and divisional guidelines on payroll, incentives, and staffing grids.
- Collaborate with medical, professional, and support service leaders to coordinate nursing care programs.
- Support all aspects of the MDS process to ensure adequate clinical documentation for reimbursement and quality measure outcomes.
- Develop and implement nursing and patient care services policies and procedures.
- Manage nursing supply and expense mitigation opportunities.
- Quality & Safety:
- Execute and sustain quality initiatives across nursing and care services.
- Develop programs and strategies to monitor the quality of nursing care, operations, and outcomes.
- Coordinate QAPI plans and continuous quality improvement initiatives with facility and divisional leaders, including survey preparation.
- Ensure nursing departments develop a robust QAPI/auditing schedule for clinical and regulatory compliance.
- Identify trends in clinical outcomes and develop improvement plans.
- Participate in planning and implementing programs to support staff and care process development.
- Maintain and grow practice standards to improve nursing care, experience, and satisfaction.
- Respond promptly to resident, staff, and family concerns.
- Partner with physicians, providers, care teams, and operational administration to meet or exceed care goals.
- Facilitate the development and improvement of programs to enhance clinical care.
- Manage errors through the Just Culture philosophy.
- Regulatory:
- Assess and provide recommendations on the organization and structure of nursing care services.
- Ensure structure and processes conform to business area policies and applicable laws and regulations.
- Coordinate with the Administrator to ensure facility investigations are completed per NYS DOH and CMS regulations.
- Participate and lead during regulatory body surveys or audits.
- Drive process improvements focused on care delivery and risk management.
- Provide leadership to ensure compliance with all licensing, regulatory, and accrediting agencies.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing required.
- 2 years of nursing leadership experience required.
- 2 years of nursing experience required; preferably in long-term care, rehabilitation, or complex care.
- Registered in NYS as a licensed registered nurse professional required.
- Basic Life Support certification by the American Heart Association required.
Physical Requirements
Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Requires frequent walking, standing, or squatting.
Pay
$110,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
Schedule
8:00 AM - 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday, with on-call requirements.
