Director, Medical Field Training

This position affords an opportunity to train a highly expert Medical Field Team in the US covering all Taiho Oncology assets and disease areas of interest. The responsibility spans across direct people management, external stakeholder management, and internal Medical Affairs strategy development and execution.
Position Summary
The Director, Medical Field Training is accountable for facilitating, planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating training programs specific to the Taiho Oncology Medical Field Team for both solid and liquid tumors. This role includes development of the training plan, disease state information, scientific product knowledge, competitive product comparisons, new hire training, launch meeting planning, skill development, and “use’ training for relevant systems.
Performance Objectives
- Maintain up-to-date on emerging scientific data, especially oncology and hematology, to enable robust scientific exchange with KOLs, HCPs, Managed Care Physicians, and Payer Organizations.
- Develop annual training plan and curriculum for the Medical Field Team to support technology utilization, product lifecycle management and disease states of interest to Taiho Oncology.
- Create the content for and/or adapt materials and tools that support the Medical Field Team in the effective delivery of Taiho Oncology product information, scientific data, managed care, and payor presentations, and real-world evidence to healthcare professionals.
- Conduct training geared towards existing and new hire employees including on-boarding and ongoing virtual field-based training.
- Collaborate with MFT management to conduct new hire skills assessment, individual mentoring and virtual orientation programs for MFTs/ESLs.
- Assess MSL educational needs through virtual observations or field visits.
- Collaborate with Medical Affairs management, vendors and/or other internal departments to leverage existing resources and enhance virtual field-based skills.
- Manage MA vendor agency in the development of materials for MFT in collaboration with Scientific Communications and Medical Information personnel and to post materials in agreed upon systems (SharePoint, Veeva, Teams, Right Find, Digital Platform, etc.) for the MFT ease of access.
- Drive the development and implementation of educational initiatives in a manner consistent with best practices, applicable law, regulations, and relevant Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Evaluate training materials, programs, and effectiveness and recommend ongoing training needs, and modify programs based on input and approval from members of the MA Leadership Team.
Education/Certification Requirements
- Doctoral degree in scientific and/or medical discipline.
- 8-plus years pharmaceutical/biotech Medical Affairs experience with a record of success.
- 3-plus years of experience as an MSL/ similar field based position.
- Experience in health economics and outcomes research (HEOR), managed care, or other related experience with a record of success.
- 3--plus years of scientific training & development experience, with MFT training experience preferred.
- 3-plus years of oncology/hematology strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership ability.
- Experience in public scientific presentations.
- Self-motivated, assertive, and self-confident with the ability to act with urgency and passion.
- Broad knowledge of oncology disease states.
- Highly competent in understanding and teaching clinical and technical, scientific knowledge; record of effective oral presentations.
- Exceptional organizational and planning skills.
- Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to build and maintain internal and external partnerships.
- Strong communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation) demonstrating professional presence.
- Significant experience working with cross-functional groups made up of two or more of the following: Medical Affairs sub-departments, information technology, managed care, marketing, sales, market research, and/or finance.
- Ability to combine big-picture, long-term orientation with understanding of details and sense of urgency to deliver quality results.
- Expertise in critically evaluating scientific literature.
- Knowledge of PhRMA, OIG, and other guidelines relating to compliant medical and field-based communications.
- Demonstrated expertise to synthesize and communicate medical information clearly.
- Possesses and maintains a valid driver’s license.
Pay Range
The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $230,350 - $271,000 annually. This pay range is based on the market range for positions of this type. However, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including annual bonus/incentive comp plans, potential long term incentive plan, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered.
