About the role

The Director, Medical Affairs Analytics & Planning leads the design and execution of integrated analytics, planning, and insight-generation capabilities across international affiliates (EU and intercontinental).

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Analytics & Insights
    • Lead the development of integrated Medical Affairs analytics frameworks, performance models, and insight systems across international markets, EU4+UK, and intercontinental affiliates.
    • Transform complex medical, scientific, operational, and engagement data into actionable strategic insights.
    • Identify trends, risks, opportunities, and capability gaps through advanced analytics.
    • Develop and maintain executive dashboards, KPIs, and performance frameworks to monitor Medical Affairs impact.
    • Generate actionable insights from scientific engagement and medical activities.
    • Ensure consistency in data standards, methodologies, and governance frameworks.
    • Apply predictive and advanced analytics to support planning, prioritization, and resource optimization.
  • Medical Planning & Insights
    • Support the integrated Medical Affairs planning cycles aligned with global strategy.
    • Close collaboration with the Medical Excellence team to execute and evaluate the quality of medical affairs projects implementation.
    • Implement frameworks to evaluate scientific engagement quality, field medical effectiveness, stakeholder impact, and execution consistency.
    • Analyze cross-market engagement outcomes to identify improvement opportunities and inform strategic direction.
    • Partner closely with the Field Medical Excellence organization to strengthen engagement models through data-driven insights.
    • Translate analytics outputs into clear, actionable improvement plans.
    • Support scenario planning, prioritization, and strategic trade-off decisions.
  • Benchmarking & Capability Analytics
    • Lead external benchmarking and capability assessment initiatives, leveraging methodologies from STEM Healthcare and the broader external advisory ecosystem.
    • Evaluate organizational capability maturity, performance effectiveness, and strategic alignment.
    • Identify opportunities to strengthen Medical Affairs capabilities and execution performance through structured analytics.
    • Develop and maintain capability measurement frameworks to track performance evolution over time.
    • Translate benchmarking insights into strategic recommendations for leadership.
    • Contribute to the evolution of global Medical Affairs capability models and analytics standards.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership & Collaboration
    • Partner with Global and Regional Medical Affairs leadership and cross-functional stakeholders including Commercial Excellence, Market Access, HEOR, RWE, Business Operations, Data & Analytics, and Finance.
    • Ensure alignment across international markets, EU4+UK, and intercontinental affiliates in strategy execution and analytics standards.
    • Influence decision-making through clear, compelling, data-driven narratives.
    • Present insights and strategic recommendations to senior leadership forums.
    • Foster a culture of data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement.
    • Drive adoption of AI-enabled analytics, machine learning models, and advanced data science capabilities to enhance decision intelligence and predictive insights.
    • Champion digital and AI transformation initiatives, ensuring Medical Affairs remains at the forefront of analytics innovation and future-ready capabilities.
    • Lead and develop a team of 2 Associate Directors, providing coaching, guidance, and capability-building to ensure strong execution, professional growth, and high-quality delivery across the function.
  • Data Governance & Analytics Enablement
    • Ensure integrity, governance, and compliance of Medical Affairs data and analytics ecosystems across all geographies.
    • Partner with technology teams to enhance automation, visualization, and advanced reporting capabilities.
    • Drive initiatives that improve data quality, scalability, and insight generation effectiveness.
    • Support transformation initiatives related to analytics modernization and decision-support capabilities.
    • Promote enterprise-wide adoption of advanced analytics and data-driven decision-making.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelors degree required in Business Administration, Business Analytics, Life Sciences, Pharmacy, Medicine, or Public Health, or related field. Advanced degree preferred (MBA, PharmD, PhD, MD, MPH, or equivalent).
  • Experience: Minimum 10 years of experience in analytics, strategic planning, market research, business intelligence, or a related field. Minimum 5 years of leadership experience, including leading teams or complex matrix work. Proven ability to synthesize complex data into actionable business insights and presenting effective recommendations to senior stakeholders. Strong background in KPI design, performance analytics, planning support, and cross-functional collaboration. Experience in pharmaceutical, healthcare, consulting, or life sciences environments required. Proven leadership in international environments, preferably with experience living and working across international markets, Europe, and intercontinental markets. Strong experience leading primary and secondary market research initiatives, translating complex data into actionable insights. Demonstrated expertise in market analytics and business intelligence frameworks, including segmentation, performance analysis, and trend identification. Experience with benchmarking, capability assessment, and advanced analytics methodologies. Ability to operate effectively in complex global matrix organizations.
