About the role

We are seeking an experienced Communications Executive to lead strategic communications efforts for OCVIBE, a large-scale mixed-use real estate development transforming 100-acres around the Honda Center in Anaheim, CA. This role will help oversee district corporate communications, media relations, storytelling, and strategic messaging tied to one of the region’s most high-profile mixed-use developments.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership & Planning
    • Develop and lead integrated communications strategies aligned with overall business, development, marketing, and leasing objectives.
    • Shape and manage the overarching narrative for the development across corporate, consumer, and stakeholder audiences.
    • Serve as a strategic advisor to executive leadership on communications opportunities, positioning, reputational considerations, and industry visibility.
    • Partner cross-functionally with development, leasing, operations, marketing, partnerships, hospitality, and community engagement teams to ensure alignment across messaging and initiatives.
    • Lead communications planning around major milestones including groundbreaking announcements, openings, partnerships, tenant announcements, activations, and community initiatives.
    • Identify opportunities to position the development and leadership team within broader conversations around real estate, placemaking, hospitality, culture, entertainment, and urban development.
    • Develop executive thought leadership strategies, including speaking opportunities, panel participation, contributed content, and media interviews.
    • Monitor industry trends, competitive projects, and evolving media narratives relevant to mixed-use development and destination placemaking.
  • Media Relations & Publicity
    • Serve as the lead media relations contact for the development and maintain strong relationships with business, real estate, architecture/design, hospitality, industry/trade, and lifestyle reporters.
    • Proactively pitch stories and secure earned media coverage across local, regional, national, trade, and consumer outlets.
    • Develop media strategies that elevate awareness of the development’s vision, offerings, partnerships, cultural programming, and economic impact.
    • Draft and oversee press releases, media alerts, executive talking points and social media posts, briefing documents, Q&As, fact sheets, newsletters, and media pitches.
    • Coordinate media interviews, press tours, site visits, launch events, and experiential media opportunities.
    • Manage inbound media inquiries and provide strategic guidance during sensitive or high-profile situations.
    • Oversee publicity efforts surrounding openings, announcements, events, partnerships, and experiential activations.
    • Collaborate and manage external PR agencies and consultants to ensure cohesive messaging, timely execution, and measurable results.
  • Digital, Social, & Creative Media Integration
    • Work alongside creative, content, and larger marketing team to shape social-first storytelling opportunities tied to construction progress, community impact, culinary experiences, entertainment programming, and district activations.
    • Ensure communications strategies are fully integrated across all earned, owned, shared, and paid channels.
    • Collaborate on content strategies that translate development milestones, placemaking initiatives, events, openings, and partnerships into compelling digital narratives.
    • Ensure consistency of messaging, tone, and positioning across media relations, social content, website copy, newsletters, and executive communications.
    • Support the development of integrated campaign rollouts that combine publicity, influencer engagement, experiential storytelling, and digital content distribution.
    • Monitor digital and social sentiment, media coverage, and audience engagement trends to inform communications strategy and identify opportunities for proactive storytelling.
    • Coordinate with agency partners, influencers, tenants, partners, and brand collaborators to extend reach and maintain message alignment across platforms.
    • Help develop crisis communications protocols and rapid-response strategies for digital and social channels.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10+ years of communications, public relations, or media relations experience.
  • Significant experience in commercial and residential real estate, mixed-use development, hospitality, destination marketing, or placemaking projects required.
  • Experience advising executives and senior leadership teams.
  • Demonstrated success securing top-tier earned media coverage and managing high-profile announcements.
  • Experience supporting projects in active development and construction phases.
  • Strong existing relationships with business, commercial real estate, hospitality, architecture/design, and lifestyle media.
  • Familiarity with Southern California and national real estate/business media landscapes preferred.
  • Combination of agency and in-house communications experience a plus.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and strategic communication skills.
  • Deep understanding of real estate development, consumer positioning, and integrated storytelling.
  • Strong ability to manage multiple priorities and operate effectively in a fast-paced, high-profile environment.
  • Proactive relationship builder with media, community leaders, and key partners.
  • Analytical thinker capable of translating media data into actionable insights.

Pay

The annual base salary range for this position in California is $125,000 to $150,000 per year. The starting pay for the successful candidate depends on various job-related factors, including but not limited to the candidate’s geographic location, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, education/training, internal value, peer equity, external market demands, and organizational considerations.
