About the role
This position is based in Orangeburg, South Carolina, reporting to the Sr Director of Operations. The Director of Materials will work closely with management teams within the Materials segment to direct and guide the implementation of strategies and tactical execution for efficient and cost-effective materials flow, delivering maximum advantage to the business and customers.
Responsibilities
- Guide and direct sourcing teams in identifying, communicating, and implementing sourcing strategies and supply chain management best practices.
- Plan and implement activities related to the timely and cost-effective procurement, inventory control, planning, and quality control of production materials.
- Work closely with subordinates to ensure global strategies and policies are effectively developed, communicated, and implemented, driving best practices.
- Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, material control systems, and metrics to reduce costs, streamline procedures, and implement solutions.
- Establish successful relationships with suppliers on a country, regional, or global basis to ensure material availability in the supply chain as scheduled and maintain inventory at minimum acceptable levels.
- Work with the Global Commodity Management and Strategic Supply Chain Management teams on sourcing strategies, including supplier selection, risk research, and capacity management.
- Coordinate with Finance on matters involving inventory carrying costs and review and plan requirements for acceptable inventory.
- Select, develop, and evaluate personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.
- Regularly interact with executives and major clients, which may result in influencing and/or persuading customer negotiations.
- Implement appropriate HR strategies and actions to recruit and retain a qualified and motivated workforce.
Requirements
- Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree.
- Typically requires 12 years of experience in materials management.
- Lean Supply Chain training desired.
- Preference for a Master’s degree in a related field.
