Business Overview
New York Life Real Estate Investors (NYL REI) is the real estate investment platform within New York Life Investment Management. Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of analysts responsible for the review and execution of borrower requests, including lease approvals, reserve disbursements, ownership transfers, insurance claims, easement requests, guaranty releases, and collateral substitutions, while building technical expertise in underwriting, loan administration, and credit analysis and supporting professional development.
- Collaborate with origination, legal, and senior leadership to manage loan administration, portfolio initiatives, and execute workout and resolution strategies, including bankruptcies, foreclosures, and note sales.
- Oversee underwriting activities, including financial analysis, risk assessment, and credit evaluation, to support asset management decisions.
- Ensure clear communication of transaction details and adherence to workflows, credit requirements, and quality control standards.
- Build and maintain strong borrower relationships to support proactive issue resolution and identify potential business opportunities.
- Design and implement best practices and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency, accuracy and consistency of reporting.
- Lead initiatives focused on process automation, workflow optimization, and data integrity.
- Oversee the accurate and timely maintenance of loan data across internal systems to support decision-making and reporting.
- Contribute to firmwide strategic initiatives by identifying and implementing best practices across the asset management function.
- Recommend innovative approaches to optimize asset performance, drive new business opportunities, and enhance revenue generation.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in real estate, finance, economics, accounting, or a related business discipline with an investment focus.
- Minimum of 8 years’ experience in the commercial real estate industry within a lending, servicing, or asset management platform.
- Proven experience motivating, developing and coordinating high-performing teams.
- Experience underwriting, analyzing and negotiating commercial mortgage loan documentation and complex legal structures to achieve risk-adjusted outcomes, maximize recoveries, and minimize losses.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively engage stakeholders at all levels.
- Hands-on experience with loan asset management systems, including Precision Loan Management (PLM), Built and other end-to-end platforms for commercial real estate investment and financial management.
- Deep expertise interpreting complex loan documents and managing construction loan budgets.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to work effectively across teams and with senior management.
- Superior organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Pay
Salary Range: $150,000-$165,000
Overtime eligible: Exempt
Discretionary bonus eligible: Yes
Sales bonus eligible: No
Actual base salary will be determined based on several factors but not limited to individual’s experience, skills, qualifications, and job location. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. In addition to base salary, employees may also be eligible to participate in an incentive program.
