About the role
This Director role in Investment Accounting will take a key leadership position supporting the accurate accounting and reporting of Aspida’s growing and increasingly complex investment portfolio. The role requires hands-on reporting expertise to lead and develop team members through the monthly close process, a transformation mindset to improve the quality and timeliness of the close, and close partnership with external investment systems (Clearwater) and our asset manager (Ares Capital) to onboard new investment transactions. This is a hybrid position, requiring onsite presence three days per week at our Durham, NC headquarters.
Responsibilities
- Take a leadership role in the preparation and review of the investment-related portions of quarterly financial statements (US GAAP and US Statutory) and other compliance filings
- Manage the monthly investment close process to ensure all activities are performed in a timely way to support overall financial reporting targets
- Review and oversee investment accounting reconciliations and controls to ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness
- Identify opportunities to improve the quality and efficiency of reporting processes to ensure scalability to support Aspida’s fast-paced growth
- Partner cross-functionally with Investments, Treasury, Financial Reporting, Ares Capital, and external service providers to resolve issues and improve processes
- Provide coaching, guidance, and development support to team members
Requirements
- 10+ years of accounting and reporting roles, including management experience in the insurance industry with an insurance carrier or top-tier audit firm
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Strong project management skills and the ability to lead cross-functional initiatives
- Solid technology skills including advanced Excel
Qualifications
- Strongly preferred: experience in reporting and accounting for investments (e.g., fixed income, derivatives, alternatives, or statutory investment accounting)
- Strongly preferred: familiarity with an investment accounting platform such as Clearwater Analytics
