About the role
Lead all inventory accounting activities across the organization, ensuring accurate valuation, reporting, controls, and compliance with U.S. GAAP and company policies. Oversee inventory accounting processes, sourced standard costing, inventory reserve management, month-end close activities, and related internal controls. Responsible for day-to-day problem solving of inventory system issues (collaborating with IT and operations) and management of intercompany AP flow for finished goods.
Responsibilities
- Provide leadership, coaching, and development for the inventory accounting team.
- Ensure accurate inventory valuation in accordance with U.S. GAAP and company accounting policies.
- Direct month-end, quarter-end, and year-end inventory accounting close activities.
- Review and approve inventory reserves for excess, obsolete, slow-moving, and damaged inventory.
- Review and approve the sourced standard costing process.
- Prepare and review inventory-related account reconciliations and financial reporting schedules.
- Analyze inventory trends, turnover, reserve adequacy, and manufacturing performance metrics.
- Present financial results and inventory analytics to senior leadership.
- Maintain strong SOX-compliant internal controls over inventory processes and financial reporting, ensuring compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and audit requirements.
- Coordinate internal and external audit activities related to inventory accounting.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance inventory controls, reporting, and operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with operations and IT to resolve inventory-related system issues, including system imbalances or finished goods AP issues.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement within the accounting department.
- Perform other duties as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent education and/or experience.
- 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
- 5+ years of leadership experience managing accounting teams.
- Significant experience in manufacturing, inventory accounting, and cost accounting environments.
- Experience with large ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, JD Edwards, or similar.
- CPA certification or public accounting experience preferred.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and inventory accounting.
- Ability to develop proven team structures and processes that drive results.

- High degree of professionalism, judgment, maturity, and resourcefulness in the absence of formalized guidelines and procedures.
Other details
Occasional travel may be required. This role includes direct reports.
