Director - International Tax, Global Compliance & Cross-Border Planning
About the role
This role oversees the strategy, oversight, and execution of EY US LLP's international tax operations and the US tax footprint of EY foreign firms. It involves leading the firm’s global tax compliance, audit defense, withholding tax management, cross-border mobility risk, quality, and transaction planning initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Overseeing EY US LLP’s federal and international tax reporting obligations, including Forms 720, 5471, 5472, 8858, 8975, and other global compliance requirements.
- Coinciding with EY Global and member firms to manage U.S. tax compliance obligations, governance processes and reporting requirements across the network.
- Advising the Tax Matters Partner and Tax Director on international tax matters, cross-border business activities, permanent establishment risk, and emerging regulatory developments.
- Managing US and international tax audits, tax authority relationships, and controversy matters involving EY US LLP and foreign member firms.
- Overseeing foreign tax credit planning, tracking and reporting processes to maximize partner tax benefits and support compliance objectives.
- Leading withholding tax strategy, including treaty benefit claims, residency certification processes and collaboration with internal stakeholders to reduce global withholding tax exposure.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Taxation or equivalent experience.
- Master’s Degree in Tax or MBA a plus.
- A minimum of 10 years of individual and expatriate taxation preferably in an environment where the individual managed a population of 500 or more expatriates/foreign nationals.
- Leading U.S. tax planning and structuring for global acquisitions, reorganizations, business transformations, and strategic initiatives undertaken by EY US LLP and EY Global.
- Overseeing financial modeling and forecasting activities related to EYGS partner distributions and other international tax planning initiatives.
- Driving continuous improvement through process optimization, enhanced data management, technology enablement, and automation of international tax operations.
Qualifications
For this role, you must have a Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Taxation or equivalent experience. A Master’s Degree in Tax or MBA is preferred. You should have a minimum of 10 years of individual and expatriate taxation experience, preferably managing a population of 500 or more expatriates/foreign nationals. You should have experience leading U.S. tax planning and structuring for global acquisitions, reorganizations, business transformations, and strategic initiatives undertaken by EY US LLP and EY Global. You should also have experience overseeing financial modeling and forecasting activities related to EYGS partner distributions and other international tax planning initiatives. Additionally, you should have experience driving continuous improvement through process optimization, enhanced data management, technology enablement, and automation of international tax operations.
Skills
- Directing the review of engagement agreements, statements of work, and other commercial arrangements to identify and mitigate international tax, withholding tax, and permanent establishment risks.
- Developing policies, governance processes, and monitoring programs related to cross-border travel and service delivery activities to minimize tax risk for partners and personnel.
Benefits
The base salary range for this job in all geographic locations in the US is $200,000 to $396,000. The base salary range for New York City Metro Area, Washington State and California (excluding Sacramento) is $240,000 to $450,000. Individual salaries within those ranges are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills and geography.

The base salary range for New York City Metro Area, Washington State and California (excluding Sacramento) is $240,000 to $450,000. Individual salaries within those ranges are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills and geography.
Schedule
Our expectation is for most people in external, client serving roles to work together in person 60% of the time over the course of an engagement, project or year. You'll be granted time off for designated EY Paid Holidays, Winter/Summer breaks, Personal/Family Care, and other leaves of absence when needed to support your physical, financial, and emotional well-being.
