Director, Intellectual Property / USG Data Rights (Remote)

About the role

For our client, we are seeking a Director, Intellectual Property / USG Data Rights to join the team of a leader in the Aerospace & Defense space. This role leads intellectual property and U.S. Government data rights matters across the business, partnering closely with senior leadership, legal counsel, engineers, and outside counsel. The position will shape IP strategy, guide agreement negotiations, and help protect technical innovations and trade secrets in a highly regulated environment. It also plays a key role in assessing patent-related risk and advising leadership on competitor infringement issues.

Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available.

Responsibilities

• Drive intellectual property engagement across the business
• Provide timely advice on IP matters to senior management and legal counsel
• Negotiate and advise on IP agreements and related contracts
• Collaborate with clients to develop IP strategies aligned with business goals
• Interact with engineers and outside counsel on patent applications and trade secrets
• Monitor third-party patents for infringement risks
• Advise senior management on competitor patent infringements

Qualifications

• University degree with 14 years of experience, or an advanced degree with 12 years of experience
• U.S. citizenship required
• Juris Doctor degree
• Admission to the Bar in one or more U.S. states
• 5+ years of IP legal experience
• Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
• 5+ years of significant U.S. Government Data Rights experience, including FAR, DFARS, or OTA

Pay

Compensation: $186,200 – $353,800 annually.
