About the role
The Director of Indigent Defense Services is responsible for overseeing the delivery of legal representation to individuals who cannot afford private attorneys.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the indigent defense program
- Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure quality legal representation
- Manage a team of attorneys and paralegals
- Collaborate with other departments within the county government to secure necessary resources
- Provide guidance and support to clients seeking legal representation
- Ensure compliance with state and federal laws related to indigent defense
Requirements
- J.D. from an accredited law school
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in legal practice, preferably in public defender’s office
- Proven leadership skills and ability to manage a team
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Qualifications
- Strong commitment to public service
- Experience working with diverse populations
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws relevant to indigent defense
Skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
