Director -Indigent Defense Services

About the role

The Director of Indigent Defense Services is responsible for overseeing the delivery of legal representation to individuals who cannot afford private attorneys.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the day-to-day operations of the indigent defense program
• Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure quality legal representation
• Manage a team of attorneys and paralegals
• Collaborate with other departments within the county government to secure necessary resources
• Provide guidance and support to clients seeking legal representation
• Ensure compliance with state and federal laws related to indigent defense

Requirements

• J.D. from an accredited law school
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in legal practice, preferably in public defender’s office
• Proven leadership skills and ability to manage a team
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

• Experience working with diverse populations
• Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws relevant to indigent defense
